I currently have a Tungsten T2 and will be getting a refurbished Clie NZ90 next week.
When I install the software for the Sony, will it create a separate Palm Desktop or will it use the one installed for the Tungsten T2??

Perhaps someone has a solution, but I have to keep them seperate. I have my wife's TG50 sync'd to her notebook. My NZ90 syncs to my notebook. My Treo 90 syncs to my desktop. If I want to get the Treo up-to-speed (sync'd with the NZ), I simply copy the address, date, to do and memo database files from the NZ to the Treo. Simple and effective, I always have a backup unit ready to go...

I agree with just copying the files. I had nightmare trying to sync my nz to a computer that already had a palm setup. My contacts got blended with my mom's and we spent hours cleaning it up. Not worth the trouble IMHO. Maybe if you used different windows user accounts? But I don't think it's worth it. You could try setting up your hotsync preferences to not sync certain apps but I'm not sure that applies to contacts.

I have my NZ-90, and a tungsten E on 1 machine with no problems at all. I at one time a Garmin Ique3600 with all 3 on 1 machine with no problems at all. I cheated though. I loaded the Desktop from the Garmin onto the computer and synced all 3 devices onto the machine. Now I did have 3 Different names on my plam desktop. A different name for each Unit but I had no sync problems and no merging problems.

Well, the NZ has arrived and is great! Having previously owned a NR70V, I really missed the camera function on the Tungsten T2.
I guess my ultimate goal was to be able to retain the same HotSync ID (there would be a lot of software replacement if I couldn't).
I decided to uninstall and remove absolutely everything Palm from my computer. I installed the Sony software using my old HotSync name and ..... could not HotSync! After hours of trying everything I could think of, I noticed the HotSync Manager was listing the last HotSync as the previous day - which would have been with the T2. Evidently all that uninstalling and deleting did not get rid of the HotSync Manager (too late now, but if anybody knows how to do that, I'd be interested). Changed the HotSync name and away it went.
So ..... needless to say, all of my software reverted back to the demo mode. I've contacted all the developers and have had a great response. The following developers provided new registration codes with no questions asked: BitsnBolts (BackupMan), Northglide (Uninstall Manager, Cleanup), GHCS Software (GedStar), WakefieldSoft (DoInventory), Astraware (Bejeweled, Big Money, Insaniquarium, Tip Top, TacTic), Brayder Software (JackFlash), Kickoo (Breakout, Patience), Red Mercury (Acid Image, Acid Solitaire).
Dataviz appears to have removed the re-download option for the v2.X of SmartList To Go, so I purchased v3.0 and it was worth it - much better interface.
I'm still waiting to hear from Blue Squirrel (BlueSync) and XiY Technologies (Rebate Manager). Not sure what's going on with them.
TealPoint (Teal Movie, Teal Lock, Teal Auto, Teal Mover) has been the only stinker of the bunch, thus far. They charge $7.95 for new registration codes - $7.95 for one or all of their programs and they'll only allow it once a year. I would not have been happy at all if I only had one program - a little easier to take with four.
So now the NZ90 is up and running and I'm lovin' it. That camera is unbelievable - the swivel screen rules - and the ability to carry a back-up battery can't be beat. Only things I don't like are that rotten cradle (who designed that???) and the ridiculously low memory (thank God nearly everything can be run off the Memory Stick).
Hope to have many enjoyable months (years?) to come with my new toy!

Thought I would post a follow-up containing the response I got from Palm Technical Support. Evidently, it is possible to completely remove the Palm Desktop (and HotSync Manager) if you do a registry edit. This would come in handy for anyone who wanted to get a new handheld, but use the same HotSync name:
---------------------------------------
If you want to completely remove the Palm™ Desktop software from your computer, you need to back up your data, uninstall Palm Desktop, delete files from your computer, and then edit the Windows® Registry file.
To back up user data, do the following:
Double-click My Computer on the desktop and open the C: Drive.
Open the Palm or Pilot folder.
Note: If you do not see a folder named Palm or Pilot, open the Program Files folder, and look there.
Right-click the User folder and select Copy.
Note: The User folder is a truncated version of your User name.
Minimize the current open windows.
Right-click an empty location of your Windows desktop and select Paste.
You should now see a backup copy of your User folder on the desktop. If you do not see a backup, repeat steps one through four until the backup is visible.
Rename the Backup folder as follows:
Double-click the My Computer icon on your Windows® desktop.
Open the C: Drive, followed by the Palm or Pilot folder.
Double-click your User Folder and locate the Backup Folder.
Right-click the Backup Folder and select Rename.
Type 'Backup2' and hit [Enter].
To uninstall the Palm Desktop software, do the following:
Close all open windows.
Click Start, select Settings, and open the Control Panel.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Scroll down, select Palm Desktop or Pilot Desktop, and click the Add/Remove button.
Follow the prompts until Palm Desktop is completely uninstalled.
Delete the Palm or Pilot Folder as follows:
Double-click My Computer again, and select the C: Drive.
Right-click the Palm or Pilot folder and select Delete.
Note: If you do not see a folder named Palm or Pilot, open the Program Files folder, and look there.
Search the hard drive as follows:
Click Start, select either Find or Search, then choose 'Files or Folders'. In the 'Named:' window, type the following command:
PALM.*
Select Find Now or Search Now. Ensure you have selected your Local hard drive.
Delete any files that are found with the exception of word processing documents, Internet shortcuts or text files.
Repeat steps two and three using 'hotsync.*' for the typing command.
Note: When this step is complete, empty the Recycling Bin on the Windows Desktop.
Check/Remove the Palm registry entries as follows:
Note: The following steps involve editing the Registry on your computer. The Registry contains vital information for the functionality of Windows. It is very important that you make a backup copy of the Registry, and follow the steps exactly. Palm, Inc. is not responsible for any issues that may arise from editing the Registry on your computer. If you are not sure how to proceed, or are uncomfortable with editing the Registry, call our Palm Technical Support line at: 1- (813) 313-4913.
One of our Palm Technical Support Specialists will be happy to assist you.
Close any open windows.
Click Start, select Run and type the following command:
REGEDIT
Note: If you are using Windows NT, type the command:
REGEDT32
Click OK to launch the Registry Editor. Click 'Registry' in the upper-portion of the window and select Export Registry File.
Choose a file name for your backup (i.e. Regbackup), ensure 'All' is selected for the Export Range, and save the file to the desktop.
Click Save and verify that the file is on the desktop. If the Registry backup is not visible on your desktop, it is imperative to repeat steps three and four until the backup is visible.
Return to the Registry Editor window and click the plus (+) sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Click the plus (+) sign once each, next to Software, and next to U.S. Robotics.
Note: If you do not see the U.S. Robotics folder, close the Registry Editor window and restart the computer; the registry file does not need to be modified.
Right-click the Pilot Desktop folder and select Delete.
Close the Registry Editor window and restart the computer.
Palm Desktop should be completely removed from your computer and you can choose to reinstall the Palm Desktop software. Then perform a HotSync with the same user name.
We hope this issue has been resolved to your satisfaction. A Customer Satisfaction Survey will be emailed to you very shortly. Please take time to provide us with your feedback about this support experience as it will help us in our on-going effort to continually improve our services.

Of course, you won't be giving Palm Technical Support a call if you bought a Clie :)
Carleton,
Good to hear things went OK in the end for your transformation from Palm to Clie. I too am a recent convert (Vx to NX60) and am quite happy I might add. My Clie came from eBay and needless to say did not come with the original software CD. Would you happen to have the Data Export program or folder or what ever so I can transfer files from PC to Clie (ie mp3s, etc.)? My email is clymrox@yahoo.com. I noticed you are from Iowa. I too am an Iowan (Winterset) and will be retiring from the Air Force there in about a year. Thanks if you can help.
