I just bought a new factory sealed NX70V from CompUSA and the entire rotating camera cylinder is noticably crooked. The cylinder is offset to the right so that there is a big gap on the left. More disturbing is that the fact that the cylinder is not aligned, so the left side of the camera cylinder is higher than the right side. Makes this $600 pda look like a SLAPPED TOGETHER PIECE OF CRAP.

THANKS SONY!

I recommend that a new buyer check this at the store.

Can you exchange it?

Alot of them are like that.
Mine is but works fine. If it breaks within it's 1 year then it'll be taken back.
Don't worry yourself, you're right that for 600 notes you would expect a bit better quality, but if it's working....

Cheers

Thanks for the support and feedback T800. I don't feel so bad now knowing that I'm the only one with a crooked camera.

I'm going to write to Sony, not because I expect them to be willing to repair/replace the unit, but just to see how they blow me off.

NEW NX70V BUYERS BEWARE!

DON"T GET ONE WITH A CROOKED CAMERA CYLINDER! FOR $600 it should be BUILT PROPERLY.

ALSO, CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR UNIT DOESN"T HAVE DEAD PIXELS!

rant, rant, rant...

If it were me and it was factory sealed and I spent $600 +, they'ed damn sure best replace it.

I would be more then a little pushy on this.

Mine is offset to the right a little, and slightly crooked, but oh well, it works and I can only tell if I really look at it. It's not really that big of a deal.

As far as I know, everyone I've seen is like that. And I've spent many hours with dozens of these things.

Does it hurt you NX? Nope. Your nx should be problem free, and if it becomes a problem, then you take it back.

If you were complaining about a dead pixel I'd say to take it back, but since all the cams are like that, it doesn't make it defected, it just makes sony full of morons since that don't know how to do mesurements.

I just hate it when people gripe about little things.

I wasn't going to post this because I didn't want it taken the wrong way. Please, no offense to deadlyfoes, but......

This is exactly the reason defects like this appear, because little annoyances or defects are too much bother, you're being "too picky".

Little defects can turn into big failures later and, as I said, you spent a lot of money on your Clie. It should be expected to be defect free.

I think Sony makes a quality product, but if there are a number of units with this problem (neither of mine has it) then they have a quality control issue they should fix.

Well, let's ask the nr70v user who have had theirs for a while. As I remember, the cams were like that on them too, actually mine was even worse before I "BB upgraded" to my nx70. So lets ask them how their cams have held up, and the majority response will be "good".

It's not a defect. So let's get that straight. A defect is something being a way it's not supposed to be. And obviously if they are all like that, then it was meant to be like that, otherwise they would have straightened it out when designing the nx70 because too many people with nothing to do in their poor pittiful lives had to go and wine about it with the nr70v. And I'm sure many have.

So once again, IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. Buy the warrenty and you don't have to be all anal about every little thing so if it does break it will be fixed or "BB upgraded". Concerning yourself with such petty things just pointlesly adds stress and grief in your lives for no reason.

Grow up people

deadlyfoez,
First of all, not all the units are like that - of the dozen of so NX devices I've seen, not a single one had a crooked camera. So a crooked camera *IS* a defect. The correct thing to do is immediately return the unit to the store you bought it from. If Sony is anything like every other manufacturing company, the primary way they learn about defects is from returns.

Actually, of all the NX70V units that I have seen, mine is the only one with a crooked camera cylinder. The three demo units in stores appeared to have all their parts aligned properly.

Most of the time I put form above function, but when I'm paying hundreds of dollars for something I tend to be a little more critical of the details.

Call me crazey.
