Hi all,
Can anyone suggest a good, stylish palm for my wife? She is not really that into technology and so just basic nice-looking machine would work.
Sony or Palm?

Whatever you get make sure it comes loaded with Bejeweled.

If palm go for T|T or maybe if you wants simple, M515
For Sony, SJ33 look nice... For me I got T|T for my wife, just cause she prefer it over NX60.

I got my wife (who is also not much of a techie) a used N610C. It does everything she wants, a bunch of things she doesn't use and all for a manageable price tag. Also, since I use an N710/760C, we were able to save a little by not having to buy extra accessories (in fact, hers didn't even come with a cradle, only a charging cable).
Main thing, get them what they want, don't bother trying to push extra flashy features, it'll just be a waste of money. If you wife is like mine, value supercedes "bang for buck."
Why not ask her, unless you're trying to surprise her.

The best PDA for my wife is My PDA

she is prolly going to want a small and thin one so it could go in her purse and not be a hassel to carry

Take your wife out shopping and let her decide, then your safe:D!
Remember, it's her money, or our money, but never your money...

Well, start by asking her what exactly she would like to be able to do with her PDA - you might be surprised.
If she's into gaming, a nice Sony machine (hi-res) would certainly be a good idea (or a Palm TT). If she only wants to replace her paper agenda, a Zire would do.
I talked a friend's wife who was very much anti-PDA into getting a Zire (he has a NR70) and she's happy with it, because her needs are quite basic. Be sure you know what she might want, before buying anything !

Yes, it is going to be a surprise and she only needs to replace her paper agenda. I thought about Zire but would like some color in her life :). Right now, I am leaning toward a Zire.
Heh, I have upgraded and handed down palms to my wife twice. She is neither a power user or tech freak and has been happy with the leftovers. But after sneaking a peek at my NX......
The first upgrade was from a Handspring Platinum to a Handera 330. The wife got the Handspring and was content using the built in apps and BankBook. Next I went from the Handera to the NX. The wife got the Handera with a 32Mb card and the works as far as applications go. Several days passed. Then I caught her playing with my NX. She noticed the vast speed difference between the Handera and the NX, 33MHz to 200MHz (this was most noticable to her when using BankBook4 with 2 years of data in the accounts and when switching between applications). She was also keen to the differences in the display. Not only is the NX HiRes+ color it has an awesome backlight. Side by side with the NX the Handera looked sad and antiquated. Anyhow, her dissatisfaction with the Handera (I once loved) was obvious. We discussed getting a lower end Clie' but finally opted to get her the same thing I had, the NX. She is very pleased with the unit and has increased he usage of the device, GAMES.
I don't think the Zire would be appropriate sitting next to your Beast. I think you should at least look at a 66MHz HiRes color device. If you get her a Clie' then it could double as an MP3 player. Man did my wife like that idea.
Good luck
Gotta keep em happy.

I think you should go with the SJ22 (earlier this year I would have said SJ20) or 33 if she likes to listen to music. It's small enough to fit comfortably in a purse or pocket and has enough memory and speed to be able to handle most things she may discover she wants to do. I have an SJ30 that I use to replace all those bits of paper I used to have. It's great for shopping lists and e-books.
Wouldn't you hate to get the Zire then have to upgrade right away because a PDA is the one techie thing she didn't know she couldn't live without:)

I've tried to give my wife, a card-carrying Luddite, a Palm for years. But it was always "too complicated" or "too big." This past year I found the perfect PDA-light; a Rex! They were discontinued with Xircom's sale to Intel awhile back, but you can still buy them on eBay, and in their low tech way (it's a PDA on a PCMCIA card) they're as impressive as an NX70 - and a lot smaller :)

nothing too expensive in case it justsite in her purse and rarely gets used and Bejeweled. does help

I have an NX70V and it absolutely changed my life.
The question really comes down to your wife and her needs (wants).
Features / size / form factor /weight etc.
For example she may love all the features of the NX or NZ models but be turned off by the size if it going in a very small handbag. Women I assume do not carry PDA's on their belt as much as men.
Good luck, I hope she is happy with whatever you choose.

Captainao. I really like the rex pda's. I was actually a beta tester for the ReX 6000 (the touch screen pda) and it was a good experience beta testing.
I like them, and it is amazing how they can fit so much into the size of a credit card.

I would reccomend the m130. I just gave my old one to my girlfriend since i have my nx70v and it's been sitting on my shelf. It's got the color and is pretty affordable.

I read this to my wife, and got almost hysterical laughter. We both had TRG Pros for three years. A little fiddling with my new NX and her comment was “the TRG reminds me of an old IBM XT.” I bought her an NX.
If you consider your wife your equal, buy her the good stuff.

Yeah, but nevertheless I wouldn't get a Zire :( but of course I see that thru my eyes of a geekie-palm-NX-freak ;)
Anyway, the friend's wife is certainly happy with her Zire, but if I were her I would have asked for a color device, a nice SJ33 for instance :D
Just as to be sure, look at how she reacts towards your NX. Does she find it exaggerated ? too big ? too complicated ? If yes, the NX might be the best machine in the world for most of us, but it won't be her "dream" PDA. Maybe a simpler machine would be better... If you can, get her a nice Sony color device, it will last longer and she won't have the feeling you have top and she has crap (if you get what I mean... :D)

Yeah, go for color....even if you opt for an older model such as a T series. I have a T615 (which you could pick up cheap) and my wife has a Visor Neo. She says if her screen were as nice and readable as mine she would use it more...get color and high-rez but I wouldnt go OS5 until your sure if shes going to use it alot.

I agree without color and Hi-Res the thing isn't even useable, BUT than again I am the techie in the house.
How about the SJ line???
I've been looking for a girlfriend of mine (not a techie) and these seem to be a great deal!:)

Thank you all for all the comments and suggestions. Final verdict had been decided and purchased: A Palm Zire with extra stylus and a carrying case.
She will be quite happy with it; she is using an old Texas Instrument organizer...yea, I know. Becuase my NX does not do anything to her emotionally...:)

I'd have to say the new SJ33, or wait til the sj22 is released and get her that one.
SJ series sounds like the best bet thus far in my opinion.
