View Full Version : The NX Series has USB?
I remember seeing an article here about the sony PDAs getting USB, however i thought this was going to be only in future, but if you look closely at the "adapter" that the nx has (the sort of mini-charger) it has a second port with a USB symbol, is this just for hotsyncing, can you plug other usb things in it, and how come its so small?

I think there is a special Sony cable that goes in that in that small "USB" port. I think it is for use as a travel setup. You use the transformer from your cradle and the special USB Sony cable and you can then "sync" to a computer with out the cradle.
I use a third party USB cable that "syncs" and charges both my NR and NX if and when I am away from my home computer. It is a lot easier than using the Sony adapter, the transformer, and the special cable, which I do not possess anyway.
I do not think it is for anything other than syncing, I do not think you can plug in a USB device to the NX like one of those key fob memory units.....However I could be wrong and that would be nice if you could.
There is some sort of USB IN port coming, but not on the current models.

This connector is miniUSB 5 pins... It's only for sync, the NX doesn't work as master....

The so called special cable I use originally was supplied with one of my Sony cameras. You'll have to go to Sony for the cable, unfortunately I don't have a part number. You'd probably be better off buying the combo cable instead from a 3rd party retailer.

You don't need a 'special' cable. It's a standard USB A -> mini USB B. I found it at a local computer store (www.lsmicro.com) for $3.69. I don't think they do mail order though. A scouring of the web should get you the same cable for around $10 or so after S/H. Be sure to verify that the B is 5 pin.
This, of course, does not come with the Sony adapter. So if you need the adapter, just buy it from Sony.

You can get the cable and the Sony adapter from overstock.com. Do a search for PEGA-HS10. It's listed as refurbished, but I bought one and don't have any problems with it. How can you refurbish a cable anyways? Must have been a return product to a store.

Have a look at the MiniSync cable - hotsyncs and charges from a USB away from home. 4" long and extends to around 3'.
