When comparing my Tungsten screen to my NR70v screen, the Tungsten is much more vibrant and colorful.
Also, with both backlights (frontlights, whatever) switched off, the Tungsten is MUCH more readable. I could actually see myself using the Tungsten with the light primarily off, while I could never see myself doing this with the NR70v.
Don't Palm and Sony use the same screen technology? WHy's the Tungsten screen so much better? What will the screen of the TG50 be like?
I'd still be happy if the TG50 screen was like the NR series, but I hope it's on par with the Tungsten.

I think is because the font that TT uses, (its bold) But the nr is palm os 4 and the high resulotion is just tweked. Try using font fix. Sometimes is not that all nr in general have the same brighness or "visibility" they are different in someways....but then i could be wrong.

the TT has a reflective screen which means it looks better in light without the backlight on. the NR uses a transflective screen. the TT is brighter than the NR series, but the NX and NZ screens put the TT to shame. I know because I've had both (still have the TT though because of the size/bluetooth). The TG50 is going to rock.

Transflective is typically seen as the newer, more expensive, and better screen technology, although you loose some visability in sunlight. Thus, the TT is using the older technology, but with better fonts?

So Does the TG50 use the same fonts from TT or the old hard to read fonts that sony had used in the other models...?

I have the Tungsten fonts on my Clie, much better than the standard Clie fonts, and MUCH better than Thinfontfix which has horrible letter spacing ( = the distance between letters, not words, is not equal all the time)
1) Install Fonthack123
2) Install OS5 fonts.
Oh wait a second, hacks don't work on OS5, do they?

I read books a lot on my NR and my father does the same and just got an TT. when using a white screen the text is a little clearer on the TT.
Then you go to a black background, which is much better for reading in the dark (i.e. bed). The TT is laughably bad in comparison. It looks like a faded violet-blue color, and even his old T615 is easily twice is dark. Not going to draw any conclusions from that, but if you've got the two give it try and see for yourself.

Yes, the transflective screens on the Sony's are better at displaying a true black screen. The screen on the NZ (and hopefully the TG50) is the best screen I've seen and is actually brighter/crisper than even the NX.

Oh good lord. The TT's screen better than a transflective screen? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!
Sorry, but no. I haven't compared the TT to an old NR series, but compared to the new NX line....it is a joke. The difference is night and day. And you don't have to worry about dust under the display as you would on the TT. ;)

I would not count on the NZ screen being put into the TG. In one of the reviews they mention the shadowing that occurs on the NX and not on the NZ and that it is visible on the TG. So I am guessing that we will see the transflective technology from the NX going into the NZ. Of course this depends upon supplies and manufacturers.
I also found it interesting that my IPAQ 1910, which many argue has one of the best PPC screens, does not display true black. It shows variations of greys and purples throughout the screen. I thought that did not happen with transflective technology. My old NX did not have this problem, though the colors were not as good as either the IPAQ or the NZ.
Oh well, hope for the best ;)

I love that HP 1910 screen as well as the one on the 54xx series. Unfortunately I have odd vision problems that seem to make it difficult for me to look at ClearType for very long even on the nice IPAQ screens. When it came to trying the e-book readers, I found the NX display a little easier on the eyes, even if it isn't as bright and bold as the IPAQ screen. Of course, this is just from looking at them in the store. Daily use may change my impressions.
Still, I wonder if anyone else who has had the opportunity to compare felt the same.

ChuToy -- make sure to go on Palmgear.com and search for Fonts4NX. BIG improvement in readability!
