I don't currently use a launcher, but how often do you get to open a forum?:) :)

 so you start a forum on Launchers and you do not use one... that should get a lot of conversation going...

Alright, I'll talk about launchers.
I'd like to see a launcher with some of the horsepower that some of the current favorites have AND a "Today" style opening screen that has current appointments and ToDo's cleanly displayed.

That's an AWESOME idea! I've wanted something like that for my Windows desktop...currently, I've got Outlook running as a startup program so that it comes up all at once, but it'd be great to integrate that into the normal desktop. Anyone know of anything like that?

Try Facer. It has the today type screen but also works as a launcher. skinnable too!

Does this mean we can monitor the "Apps" forum and blast launcher thread posters for posting in the wrong forum? :D

You really should take a look at Facer (pocketcraft.com). It is quite a fun launcher and also has the Today screen that is quite nice too. Yes the todos and calendar are cleanly displayed; and that really can change dependingon what theme that you add. Actually there is a Facer Yahoo Group (groups.yahoo.com/facerthemes) that is quite livley and will help ya find the theme that you are looking for. There is also a theme maker so that you can make your own themes.

Granted. It is not as powerful as yishow or Zlauncher; but for me it does the job quite well. And I like that it is not as powerful and therefore easier to get up and running.

If you have a handheld device (a Clie, I assume), you DO use a launcher.  I use the built in launcher that comes with the NX.  It's clean, intuitive, and now that TheSpies released a skin maker, it's skinnable.

Thanks for the replies!

I tried Facer a while ago—maybe it's time to check it out again.

Nope, zlauncher... BUT I am a post-LAUNCHER Wars user... :P

Right now, I am using YiShow. I tried out a few others... MegaLauncher, ZLauncher, etc. I liked the extra features of YiShow, such as the JPG viewer. Based on what I tried, I am not sure that any specific launcher was head and shoulders above the others. Are there any special features that makes any one launcher really stand out? Many of them seemed pretty similar to me.

Well I fired up Facer and I remember what I didn't like about it.
You can't switch days without going through a menu. Pretty slick, otherwise.

I'm using Yishow and I'm quite satisfied with it.
It was one of the first launchers to have a display fullscreen.
Before, on my Visor Deluxe, I was using Silverscreen.

How do these launchers handle the MS? I tried Silverscreen and you have to move applications back and forth from the standard memory to the stick. Not an acceptable solution when you have many sticks.

Launchers hun? Let me throw my two cents in. I have been using MLauncher for about two years and really like the functionality it has. Recently I started using YiShow and ZLauncher. I like the inerface of YiShow but love the display of ZLauncher. I guess the moral here is that different people like different things and if the application does what you want and you like the feel, then go for it.

At this point there is not a "button" that will enable you to switch days. There are currently two ways of switching days: using the Command Stroke (looks like a '/') and then you will see commands to go to the next/previous day or today or you can do the commmand stroke and N for next day or P for previous day. If you click on the icon next to the calendar listings then you can choose wahtever day you want to see on the Today screen, but it will always defalt back to the present day.

I saw that, but I like using 320X480 and the graffiti command is not easily accessible.

I consider ZLauncher to have the controls of a Boeing 757 cockpit, while YiShow looks like a Mercedes Benz dashboard . . . simple, yet elegant and functional! Both basically get the same job done. If you like to tweak and fiddle, ZLauncher is it. If you want simple functionality, YiShow is a good choice.

It's a war for those who need something to defend. It's discussion for those who have nothing better to do. Anyway, I use Facer and am completely happy with it. First, It is half the size of the others. second, I don't need a file manager, image viewer, etc, etc, etc. Third, it is regularly updated and is easily skinned. Last time I checked, skinning Zlauncher took about 10 hours. I don't have that much time for that activity.

Facer is due to come out with some maore features relatively soon. Email the developer and he will be glad to try to implement those things he feels add to the value of the launcher.

maybe I'm boring :o , because I use CRSLauncher. It's clean, fast, small (that's not really an issue any more) and allows me to display all the 12 taps without scrolling.
No other features: no native vfs, no skins, no backgrounds, no file manager.
Just a launcher, and that's why it's the best!

If you use a program like  NewPen then you would be able to get by without having the grfatti area up.

I use Facer just for the Today page. When I first turn on my T665c I can check out what has to be done for the day. Then I hit the Home icon and it goes back to Yishow.

I did download the Facer 1.6 (Demo so far) and installed the SONY version on my NZ90. It certainly doesn't work well at all. When I click on an appointment or task which is on the TODAY screen it pulls up a Crappy box... which is 1/2 drawn and can't read anything in it.

Also...... at the top of the screen there is a clock (top-center). The 'flasher' which should flash the Seconds delimiter (colon) in time like 12:34 flashes in the HOUR area instead.

I did uninstall the SONY version of FACER 1.6 and installed the OS5 version... and that seems to work just fine.

I wrote the company www.pocketcraft.com and asked them if they will be puttin in BlueTooth Support for beaming, and they simply said.. it isn't in the current release... and that I would have free upgrades for 'patch' releases until the next full version comes out (which I would assume will be 2.0). I didn't get the impression from PocketCraft there will be any BlueTooth support added in the current 1.x releases.

So far.. .I do like the TODAY page, but am not impressed with the 'launcher' It only has one category on the page... and you must select that one to get to the category you wish (I liked HandScape's multi-tab format). It does no importing of current settings (granted the Clie is running it's own launcher type program). It does offer, when setting up the groups/applications, to the user the programs which have been installed on the MS which is nice.

All in all... I'd currently give it about a 3.75 stars out of 5. Once they get the BlueTooth infused into it and fix a couple quirks for the Clie.... I'll be more of a fan.. and might actually purchase it.

BT beaming is a great idea to add. Wish I would have thought about that. I know that PC is pretty well in listening to suggestions and implementing them. There is a major update coming, so some of your concerns might bce fixed by then. If you are really liking Facer I would say buy it and then you will have a better (read: $$$) say in what goes in and out of the program.
