Hi all!!! I'm new here. I finally made the move and got myself a good palm. I had a Palm M130, but the battery started flaking out so I moved up and got a UX-50. I couldn't be happier.
I've got it to do pretty much everything I need it to do. I have a wireless network at home. So I have no probs hotsyncing or web surfing wirelessly. Well, no probem after about an hour with tech support. But the prob was with the network, not the UX.
Anywoo, here is my new dilemma. There are times when I'm on the road and need to get on the net. Basicly I would need to check my e-mail, Ebay acct and PayPal acct. I have cell phone with Alltel now, but they don't and won't have a phone with BT. I'm planning to change to Verizon as soon as my contract is up. I know they are coming out with a BT phone in July-August. The phone will be the Motorola V710. Would this combo work? Or should I go with Cingular and a SE T616? Cingular doesn't have the best coverage in my area. But if I have to, I'll get a phone just to get on the net with the UX.
I'll be thankful for any suggestion.

well cant say anything about any of the other newer phones, that have come oout or any phoines that will come out, I 've had my nokia 3650 (but big, but I have big hands and it doesnt seem like im searching for buttons to ot press)(also the phone is mopstly in my bag so I dont need to have it in hand), I have had the ux50 and that phone connected using t-mobile (unlimited internet plan), and have never had any problems at all with it, and I do use it on the road alot also.
I browse the web, chat with people (aim), good luck to whichever you select
I used to have to carry the company's large and heavy laptop with the built in bluetooth. Some coworkers at the latest conference was simply amazed at what I could do with such a small device, keeping in touch with the maion offce that uses sametime, (with aol im added.)
They were really considering buying about 500 of the ux50, but they are in short supply now I dont think that would happen.

I'm also wondering if it has to be a GSM provider or if that matters at all?

It doesn't need to be a GSM provider, but the GSM providers are the ones who are able to take advantage of the popularity of BT cell phones from Europe -- at least that's what I think is the reason that cingular and t-mobile are the ones with all the compatible handsets.
I say if you can wait and stick with your current provider (with the better coverage) that's what you should do. But only if you're sure that the motorola is going to have BT.
If it does have BT it should work just fine. BT communication is pretty standardized, I think.
get the tmobile phone, they have bt.

Well,,, I found a cingular retailer here in Orange Connecticut that is offering SE t637 for only $100 with sign up. This phone is running for about $270-$300 on Ebay. I hesitated in buying it because i dont like to have the Cingular Logo on my phone. I think the t637 is a very neet little phone with BT compatibility. Just a little too expensive. But seems like i'm getting it as a present soooooon. :D

Sounds like it may be better for me to wait and see how well the Verizon phone is going to work.
I'll be very glad to get rid of this Motorola V60x peace of junk I got now with Alltel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had never signed a 2 year contract. Oh well the contract will be up in the fall. And then it's good-bye Alltel!!!!!

Ok, I work for Nokia and I have access to several handsets with Bluetooth. I cannot get any of them to even send a SMS let alone connect to the internet. Any tips? Phones I have tried are 7610, 6600, 6620, 6230 etc.. Help!

Don't even consider the newer Nokia BT phones.
They have "enhanced security" BT which makes them incompatible with the Palm OS. According to Nokia tech support the issue is "...Palm's problem".
After months of waiting I got the Nokia 6600 from Tmobile last week only to find this out. I'm sending it back tommorrow.
Older Nokia phones like the 3650 don't have this problem.

I've never used BT before with a cellphone, so pardon my ignorance...
If you connect the UX50 via BT and your cellphone, would internet charges incur?

I have AT&T cell provider, and I use a sony erricson t68i and I can do all of the things you asked and more, the t68i is a little older but it works well and last hundreds and hundreds of hours on a single charge, the AT&T is strong and connects cross country so I have NO complaints, execpt how you are charged, not by time on internet but data sent and recieved, I do think alot of the providers are doing this now tho
