View Full Version : Need Advice for Upgrading to NZ90

Hi, I am a long time reader of the ClieSource forums and I love the site. Here is my story, I have got a NR70 for my birthday last year in July without the Extended Best Buy warranty. I have succesfully exchanged it 5 month after for the new NX70v (probably due to some extreme luck!!!). Now I have thought that when I exchanged it that I bought the extended warranty, but it turns out I haven't due to the fact that I was too excited about my new toy.
I have went to 5 different Best buy stores at 2 different work shifts to try and see if somebody would be able to exchange the NX70v for the new NZ90. However this time I had no luck at all, and everyone pointed out that my 30 day warranty has expired a month ago. What I am looking for is advice on what I should do to get the NZ90? Is e-bay or selling to a friend the only option for me at the moment?
Please any feedback at all would be apreciated...

If I were you I would just give up on Best Buy and go for ebay or some other online auction, but do not sell it to your friend, when he sees the NZ90 he will want it too and so he will have the same problem that you do :D

Ya its just reallly strange to me how I could upgrade 5 month later after the 30 day warranty no problem, and now it seems that the Best Buy employees have had more training in the matter hehehe.

and scroll down to the post I (cjones) made on 03/04 @ 4pm. I talked about what you can do via the product replacement plan at CompUSA. Given that you've got an NX and you want to upgrade, it's definitely a potential plan for you that will cost little $$$.

how about buying a new one with cash and make sure u get the extended service plan and then returning one of them but keep the extended service plan. voila a new nx with extended service plan and then the rest i will leave up to u.

so cjones from what that post said, All i have to do is go and buy a replacement plan from best buy? But will they sell the replacement plan even though I have bought the PDA about 2 month ago?

I think that if you bring in the unit and show that it is fine, then they will give you the plan. However, don't expect to be able to purchse the warranty, and then right away get to exchange it. It can take a while, and they may not even let you do it at all.

My NX is in perfect working condition, It has been hardly used. If they want to check it for problems thats fine, cause it has none. Now when I buy the extended warranty, I know they will not let me exchange it right there or even for a long time. How about getting it exchanged at another store? Or would they see on the computer that I only today got the extended warranty?
Some Questions:
1) What are my chances of getting the extended warranty if my unit is in perfect working condition?
2) Also the fact that the unit was bought 2 month ago, could that hurt my chances of getting the warranty?
3) If they refuse for some strange reason, could I try and buy a extended warranty at another store?
(In my city there are 5 BestBuys to try at).

For anybody to answer your question is only a guess. If we all said NO, would that stop you? Wouldn't stop me though.
I've bought stuff from BB before and the warranty was offered DURING purchase.
I don't believe it will be honored after 60 days. 30 maybe.
But if you have 5 BB's to choose from then . . . . . . .WHAT THE HAY!!! Try it. Ask 'em each. You've got a 1 out of 5 chance right?
But I'd do it ASAP. Don't drag your feet. You might be plesantly surprised.

Obviously is for the 2MP camera I think ... if not, then why waste all the trouble of decomissioning your NX

Hmm, ya it is for the 2 Megapixel camera.
However, about 2 weeks have passed and my decision of upgrading to the nz90 is not 100% sure anymore. I adore my NX, I belive that it is the best pda machine on the market right now. I might not go through the hastle of getting the NZ. I guess it all depends on my determination and willingness to undergo high level of stress when dealing with the BB employees :(
I have given my NX away to a friend to sell it on E-bay about a weeek ago, and I just called him up yesterday and boy was I relieved to know that he hasn't sold it yet. I dont know, it seems as though I am very attached to my PDA and when I dont have it on me, it feels as though I am missing a part of my body. I dont know if anyone has experienced that before, some probably have.
I will pick it up from him today in the afternoon---CAN'T WAIT!!!
I want to thank you for your support, and I will keep you posted if anything changes in the near future.

ok again if u have extra money go and buy a new nx with the BB plan (with cash) and then wait a few days and return one of the units. Make sure u tell them that u want to keep the plan because u still have one nx that u received as a "present" and there u go u got a NX with BB warranty. Again to upgrade i leave that up to your imagination...there are plenty of threads that u can read about how people use the BB plan to upgrade without original receipts.

Dont they have an ID# that they associate the BB plan with the Device bought in their computer? Or you mean I should Ask after I return the NX to transfer the Warranty onto another device?
Or it transfers automatically?

no, no id# just has your info (name address etc.) and the NX pda that's it, but u have to return it before the price goes down...if u wait to long then they will give you credit for what it's worth then... this is what i did
i had a friend who worked at BB who bought the NR for me at discount price with the BBplan he told me i could not use the BB plan only he could, so i went out the next day bought myself another NR with the plan and then waited a week to return it. i told CS that i wanted to keep the plan because i had another one i received as a present and was pretty sure it did not have a plan. they had no problem with that and then had to wait couple of months to get the NX. I kept getting a fatal error message so i tried to return it for the NX but they wouldn't let me...somethin about it was a sony software problem and to contact sony for that. A lil discouraged so i waited another month to try again and this time went to one of those huge Supercenter BB and showed them the fatal alert and they with out a problem exchanged it for the NX but i had to pay the difference, which was 150 and i didn't really care because it was worth it, plus i now had a legible receipt showing i paid 599 for it. next i waited for the NZ and BB has a 30 day customer fulfillment guarantee and so i upgraded this time with no hassle. i know it seems like alot to do but now i have the NZ with the BBPLan and pretty happy with it. Thinkin about returning it back for the NX though...and wait a few months to see the next clie...hopefully a slimfast version of the NZ.

The best buy plan is pretty nice :) I've used it 4 times, and all of them were for legitimate reasons ;)
