What's a signed application?

Does all Palm OS applications needs to be signed for it to work on the Tapwave? If not, how do you know a certain app will need to be signed or not?

No, only apps that make use of some special Tapwave-specific APIs need to be signed in order to work on the Zodiac. An example would be StuntCar Extreme (a game that comes with the Zodiac). It makes use of the Zodiac's analog joystick to allow for precise movement. A traditional Palm OS game can treat the analog controller as a four-way (or maybe eight-way?) controller without needing to use Tapwave's special APIs and, therefore, wouldn't need to be signed.
