This is my NZ90 docked on it's cradle with the AC adaptor hooked on the cradle and it's sitting on my Targus IrDA wireless keyboard. This is how I type my term papers or enter data into my NZ90. I usually also have some MP3s playing off it...I love my NZ90 :D I sold my Thinkpad after only having my NZ90 for a month...I have no regrets. It has completely replaced the laptop without a hiccup. It does everything I need it to do and I use my desktop PC for everything my Clie can't do.

If you're wondering, it's really comfortable typing like this. I owned a UX50 before this and with the Targus wireless keyboard I had to constantly look down at the UX50...my neck would ache and the screen on the UX50 was super small. With the NZ90 this is not a problem. With the screen in it's "up" position I'm looking straight forward as I would a laptop. Also if anyone is looking for a good keyboard, the Targus universal wireless keyboard is awesome. It does not lag, I'm a fast typist usually upwards towards 75-80 WPM and the Targus is up to task at keeping up and it's comfortable to use.

Now...I haven't seen too many user NZ90s in action. If you have pics, post'em

David, I noticed you do term papers on your NZ90? How do you have enough space to run a word processing program and storer the paper? Are you able to put the program and the papers you write on a MS and get the Clie to read it?
I've had mine since they first came out but found it's amount of storage very limiting for adding programs. I put on the 'net, email and wirless card and a couple of small games and it's full.

I do love it tho and was devastated to hear Sony won't be selling them in the US anymore. What on earth will I do when this one dies??? And, will we be able to buy new batteries from Sony for it?

It's a shame they've dropped the Clie

Reven880, I'm using DataVitz Documents to Go and I have the program stored on my Clie's internal memory however I have all my papers & e-books stored on my memory stick. You can set the program to store all your documents on the memory stick to save space on your Clie. I also have a few e-books stored on the ms that I use Word To Go to read, I don't have a problem with memory as I use a 512MB CF card to store MP3s and videos (With the help of the great people on cliesource.com...and I'm sure they've all moved here as well...) and a 128MB MS to store documents and information.

And I'm sadden that Sony has decided not to release any new PDAs in the US also. But I wouldn't worry about finding batteries for the NZ90...they're all over Ebay :D New and refurbished ones. Heck I can still find refurbish stuff for the Clie S300 that came out many many years ago on Ebay.

There should be quite a few NZ's for some time as refurbs or on eBay. I personally may pick one up as a spare, IF I can get it new and around the $300 mark.

I purchased my extra batteries on eBay and on the cliesource Classifieds board. With 4 batteries total, I can easily do a 3-4 day trip with no outlet. :D

that is a sick setup!
i love the "multitask" abilities of the NZ90

word processing/mp3/verichat IM/internet browsing

all at the same time
one wonders why no one else uses this setup

I have two but I think I'll search ebay and see if I can pick up a couple more since they might become more scarce after Sony stops selling the Clies here.
Thanks

Here's a pic of my setup at my office:

Note the prominent position of the coffee tumbler...

Last Friday I flew to San Francisco for the day. On the way down I wrote a document for my client in Word format on Docs to Go, completely formatted. When I got to the trade show, I inserted my memory stick in the eMachines card reader, opened the doc and printed it on the spot with my Canon BJC85 portable printer.

The client was impressed.

Oh yeah, then I used the NZ to photograph the show and to review images with the client later.

Time with your wife, time with your kids: PRICELESS.

For everything else there's the NZ90...

Tony, I just searched on Ebay for a battery for the NZ90 but nothing came up. Lots of battery chargers and a few NZ90's for sale but no batteries. What search terms did you use? Can you look and see if you can spot them?
Thanks

Tony, I just saw your attachment. Great setup. It looks like a computer family there. Does your Clie have it's very own mouse? How is it attached?

Paula:

The Logitech wireless mouse is hooked up to the desktop... The NZ90 and its cradle are attached to the notebook. I have a Treo 90 hooked up to the desktop computer as a backup in case the Clie is lost or needs service... Since the Clie and the Treo use different Palm desktop software, they can't be on the same computer. :)

David I was looking at the Universal wireless keyboard to use with the NZ90 and wondered how it's receiver connects to the NZ90?

And Tony....or anyone...I saw someone posted that it multitasks. I've not seen that feature. If I want to, say, check an appointment on the calendar, I have to change from the game, book or whatever, that I'm working on. Yes, it does, open back up where I left off but is that considered multitasking? Can you play mp3s while playing a game or reading an ebook?
I just saw a gently used NZ90 go for $300 on ebay. I meant to bid on it but forgot to check back in time. :-(

Paula:

Palm OS units don't "multi-task" in the windows sense of the word. While you CAN play MP3's in the background, other apps operate in a suspend-state mode, as you have noted.

Not all apps are well behaved at this. For instance, some of the Palm Basic Four will revert back to their base state after switching to another app and back. If you're editing an Address, switch to eReader and then back to Address, you'll have to look up your contact again. Memo and Date don't do this. There is sometimes a difference between the hard buttons and the screen icons in the way The Basic Four operate. Some third-party apps do this as well.

PocketPC apps continue to run until operating RAM is full or they are manually shut down, except for some units that have written special code to be able to really shut an app when the "X" is selected...

Does any of this make sense? Don't worry about "multi-tasking"... In the Palm world it's really not that necessary, ie, there's not much of a need to have computational work being down while you do something else. Actually, even with Windows, I really don't need it anymore. Used to be, if I was opening a large Photoshop file or something similar, I could go to another window to do something else. This is most commonly seen today when one web page opens slow and you move on to abnother site in a seperate window.

Yes, Tony, it does make sense. Thanks for explaining it. I had not tried to play mp3s in the background while doing something else so that's one for me to try. I put Docs to Go on a couple of nights ago but am having problems getting it to work correctly. First, it wouldn't all go on because it filled up all the memory. I moved some stuff to the MS and reinstalled but it wouldn't open Word docs tho other things worked like slide show to go,e tc. A whole new learning curve.

Paula, the Targus universal keyboard has a little tab with an infrared beam on it. You adjust the tab to the NZ90's infrared port and turn on the keyboard using the included software and that's it. It works rather well. The keyboard also has it's own stand you can place the NZ90 on. When you're done, just turn off the keyboard in the keyboard software so you don't consume battery life in the Clie with the infrared port on. :)

Thanks David. I've never used the infrared feature before and forgot it even had it.
