Check that the cradle is still plugged in. Next try reseating it in the cradle. Sometimes with a bad contact it won't be able to charge.

If that doesn't work, try a soft reset (use tip of stylus to push in button on bottom right side). If that fails, do a hard reset (do soft reset holding the power button on, then choose "erase data"). If you've backed up/hotsynced before, you should be able to restore most if not all of your files.

If that fails, you can call Sony (you're still in your year warranty period if you registered your unit - 3 months if you haven't) but they basically won't take you seriously until you've done a hard reset - I know from experience.

I've never used the plug for the TH, but I would assume it works just as well. I suppose your plug could be faulty, but that doesn't seem as likely. If you have another Sony cradle around it would be wise to test it, but running out to buy a cradle is probably not the best solution (though having a cradle is nice in general).

I would have suggested the resets as well, too bad that didn't work. Is the TH still functional but not charging, or is it totally not responding? If it is working, have you checked the battery status on the status bar to see if it shows the charging symbol when it's plugged in?

Really obvious question (aside from "is it plugged in?"): Is it possible the TH is already fully charged? Other than that I'm out of ideas for now.

(C.L: the TH doesn't come with a cradle but you can buy one for it, the part number is PEGA-UC55, although other Clie cradles also kind-of fit it, though I wouldn't trust them not to put pressure on the connector.)

Cradle? TH55 have a cradle?

Sorry. My bad. One of the first things I purchased with the TH55 was a cradle. As has already been mentioned, the TH55 came with a charging cable. My comment still holds true for a cable however - the connection has got to be good for charging to occur though it's a lot harder to misconnect a cable! ;)

There are only so many things that can be at fault: the TH55, the cable, the outlet (does it work with other electronics?) or, as kp* suggested, it might already be charged.

Neither the cable nor the aftermarket cradle (quite unlike previous cradles, BTW) have a way to indicate charging - it's either the yellow light or no light (which can mean fully charged or simply not charging) so your only clue will come from the TH55 itself.

If you have checked everything you can & done everything you could, the next step would be to call Sony. If you've had your PDA for under two weeks, you might also try returning it to the B&M vendor, if there is one.

FYI, the good-old & el cheapo UC600 ($20 from ebay) for T-415/615 works just fine with TH55. The charging light works, see picture below. Could it be the TH55 charging light burnt out?

How you get the pic in your avatar to appear on your TH55 screen?

there is also no lightning Bolt.

The lightning bolt can be seen in the bottom toolbar. It goes through the blue battery icon which is the 5th from the left.

If you want to see it on the top of your screen as well, you must be in the Standard View, not the Clie Launcher View.

Rainyfor,

I would suggest that you find someone with a voltmeter and check that the power supply is working. (This is almost easier to do than to describe!) The power supply is the block that plugs into your wall outlet. There is a cord attached to the block and at the end of the cord is a connector which plugs into the adaptor that plugs into your TH55. Pull the power cord out of the back of the connector and check the three connections. I don't have the schematic, but if you get voltage across any two pins, your supply is probably OK. If you don't get voltage between any of the pins you probably need to replace the power supply. By the way, you will probably need some short pieces of wire to make connection into the plug.

Sorry if this is either too simple or too confusing. Hope it helps.

Jim

I think (I hope) his point is that the lightning bolt is not displayed on the battery when the Clie is plugged in, thus it's not receiving power from the charger, which is what this thread is trying to diagnose.
