View Full Version : G2 Screen Protector Incompatible?

Hey folks,
I read a brief comment in another thread that seemed to indicate that the G2 screen protector from www.pdascreenprotectors.com may cause problems with the NX series by placing pressure on the screen (thus disorienting the digitizer). Has anyone had problems with the G2 screen protector on an NX model? Or alternatively, is anyone using a G2 with their NX successfully? Thanks for any info.
And for folks who don't already know, the G2 is different because it gets tucked under the frame of the PDA screen, unlike sticky protectors, which is why screen pressure might be a problem for it... but I want to confirm that.

You don't want it to put pressure on the screen. Slipping under the frame on the Clie doesn't look to advisable.
I personally don't use any screen protector. They can cause more problems than they are worth.
I had a PPC were my screen got scratched because some debris got under it, so I stopped using them.

In light of n2ifp's response, and the general lack of response on this topic, perhaps the better question to ask is: Is anyone happily not using a screen protector on their NX? My NX arrived in the mail today, and I want to make sure I am treating it right. Thanks!
(FYI, I currently use a Brando on my T615, but it is not quite as clear as the G2 screen protectors claim to be, which is why I am asking about G2s.)

I would recommend you try the boxwave cleartouch....go to www.boxwave.com it is similiar to the brandos...but much much clearer...and with a smooth writing surface...in my opinion the best of both worlds (G2's and brando) without the hassles of both worlds....if you're looking for an NX protector...i have one extra...i bought the 3 package deal to save money...thinking i would need the extras...but after putting on my first one...i truely think it will last the life of my pda...therefore...i now have 2 extras...and only need to keep one extra just in case....so i have one extra to sell....

rxmedicine, I would also be interested if you are selling. I just saw that a pack of three from BoxWave is $28 (?!?). A pack of two G2s is $14. Why aren't these things sold individually? I only need one! :)

My mistake... you can buy a single ClearTouch from BoxWave for $13. Not cheap, but you aren't forced to pay for three.

I found that tucking it under the frame was much better than trying to stick something to the screen. I, personally, have not had any problems with "pressure on the digitizer". Getting it installed can be a bit tricky but I love the look and feel of it.
I felt that for the price I paid for the NX70, I wanted to protect the one part of it that got the most wear and tear. I would recommend a screen protector.
Good luck,
Dave

I use the G2 and after corresponding with pdascreenprotectors.com we figured out a method to put them on that is different than their printed instructions. I bent one of them up trying to install it and they promptly sent me another one no questions asked. I scratched the naked screen on my Jornada 568 after a year of use just from daily Fitaly use and vowed to never go naked again, especially with the beautiful NX display. If you want to play Insaniquarium, then I HIGHLY recommend you use screen protection. Although the G2s may be tough to get on, once they are there you cannot even tell you have a screen protector on because they look just like the naked screen and they don't affect the sensitivity at all. I now have no worries at all, whereas I used to try to avoid too much screen tapping.

Hey folks,
So I ended up getting the G2 screen protector for my NX. I ordered it last last Thursday (03/06) and it arrived today (03/14) in a letter-size envelope. I got a pair of G2s for $16.90 including shipping.
I installed it later this evening. As many have said, it can be tough to install. It took me about 45 minutes of cleaning and several attempts. I did the install in the bathroom (less dust) and used a compressed air can to make sure the screen and bottom of the protector were clean... I think the air can helped a lot in keeping the dust away during my attempts. However, I had enough trouble sliding the protector under the frame that I decided to cut about 2mm off one of the short edges. This made it much easier to install.
Overall I would recommend this screen protector, assuming you have the patience for a very careful install process. The G2 is very clear... you almost can't tell the screen protector is there. The digitizer sensitivity is reduced slightly (though barely noticeable), and it does slide around a bit under the frame if I push it with my fingers, but not when I am using the stylus.
That's about it... I hope this helps any prospective buyers!

I have a G2 on my 665 and it's terrific. No digitizer problems and great display. G2 has to be installed carefully. Once you get slipped evenly inder the bezel. you're home free.

I use a G2 and really like it. Most of the time I forget it is there.
