What country do you live in? Hard to answer without knowing that.

the maps will run off the card for both apps. I used Mapopolis since it is free. Read the article enclosed earlier.

The maps are copied to ram for use. If you plan a long route the NZ90 will run out of memory soon.

so there is no way of running an a map software with a long route and not running out of memory.

zamanakhan, I use a bluetooth GPS system, which is compatible with TomTom, Mapopolis and Handmap.
TomTom is the best in graphics, but also the most expensive (couldn't find any vendor who's sell it w/o the GPS unit).
Handmap is nice and sleek, but they got a lousy(!) policy regarding map access.
Mapopolis is a good medium choice.
Their maps are easy enough to access, but they don't offer any upgrade protection.
You are good to download your maps for 1 year only.
But their program works fine and supports all features of the NZ90, including HiRes and speech.

There are also a few others out there, but their maps are either not for the US or not really professional enough (PalmGear -> GPS).
Crap SW like Delorme, where you have to spend days and weeks generating maps yourself on your PC, I didn't even mention here.

PS: Both Handmap and Mapopolis support VFS and the memory stick.
I never had any RAM issues with either one, long route or not.
