Memory Stick or Memory Stick Pro

Well, I had a disaster over the weekend. Lost my memory stick. Well sort of "lost" it. I'd like to say that it fell out of my NZ-90 but, let's be honest, drinking had a lot to do with it. Anyway... I'm going to Circuit City tomorrow to pick up a new one and I'm just wondering if I should get a memory stick or a memory stick Pro. Will my NZ-90 see any performance increase? Faster picture to memory stick time? Or do they work the same in my NZ-90 and I should save myself a few bucks...?

take the PRO its a little faster than a normal MS!
by the way, you can have one with 1GB (from Sandisk)
for near: 200 or 250 $ this I have pay for the 1GBMS in Germany...

this is why i decided to buy the old stick. in case you get an unwanted hardreset and you are not at home. then you are not able to read your backup files, cause first you have to hotsync the pro driver. till that moment you do not have any access to your pro stick...

for large memory extensions i have got CF cards...

you can always have a backup on the memory card
i don't trust hotsync
frequently screws up my installed files since it thinks that the files in flash (using jackflash) are actually in RAM and begins to install those files and i run out of space

Not sure what you folks are complaining about here, but I had lots of hard resets on my NZ90 and it never had any problems recognizing my 2GB Memory Stick Pro afterwards (or any of the other Pro sticks I got).
So I really see no reason why not to prefer the Pro.

...yes, I was just about to ask: if you do a full backup onto your MSPro and start a restore after a hard reset will the NZ accept the MSPro without having the patch installed? :confused:

olo, again I *never, ever* had any of these problems.
And if you're really suspicious here, just use JackFlash to move the PRO driver into permanent (Flash) memory.
There just is no problem here.

I have a modest 2x 128 Mg (two memory banks) MS from Lexar and it works fine. Thing is, Sonicstage won't convert my mp3's to ATRAC3(plus) for this MS, probably because it's not the original white MagicGate MS from Sony, I think. The software thinks it's a copyright issue or it has something to do with the version of sonicstage (1.5.05.10301).

There has to be some way around this allowing me to download mp3's to my NZ90 and enjoy them without Sony bugging me to use their expensive material. The PDA was expensive enough already.

Again Menno Kiel, I'm surprised to see people having a "problem" where there just is none.
You will never, ever be able to bypass the ATRAC SW problems on non-PRO MS, as the entire issue with the PRO MS was the copyright protection technology (and the increased speed it offers) that is part of the PRO technology.
But since Sony never finalized the drivers for the NZ90 copyright protection schemes anyway, we are left with "only" enjoying the increased speed of the PROs.
And now here is where you're loosing me:

The NZ90's AudioPlayer can play native MP3 files directly "from scratch", w/o *any* further conversion. So why insist on that silly ATRAC scheme anyway?
Just put the sound files into "\PALM\Programs\MSAudio" and you're ready to rumble.
Any simple memory stick USB adapter will do (-> Walmart $15.-- or less).
So why do you even bother with all that ATRAC nonsense?
And USB drive copy its much faster anyway than trying to upload megabytes of sound files via the hotsync cradle.
I never even bothered with any audio conversion programs.
Heck, I'm not even running Windoze on my PC.
So thank the heaven's that Sony never got to finish those copy protection drivers for the NZ90, as we now get to enjoy the added speed of the PRO w/o the hassle of not being able to "copy away" as technological need requires.

PS: There is a freeware program available on Palmgear where you can set up Audio Albums for the Sony player. Its easy and really good.
