Astraware released their latest strategy game, Strange Adventures in Infinite Space today. I've already gone and registered it. It is a very neat game to play and the graphics are well done though a bit pixelated in some places (like star graphics on the game map and some on the graphics in the intro screen).

Don't know if it's just me. This game isn't really what I expected. Been through the demo and started a new standard adventure. More like a go to point A to point B. Find something. If there is a bad guy in the middle fight it. After being everywhere return home and end game...

Is there anything else to it?

Nope, it is a very empty-headed game compared to either Elite or Space Trader. In both of those the buying and selling complement the combat. In this game there is no actual buying or selling just trading of good acquired for new goods but in a most simplistic manner. The combat is interesting because of the animation but just about as simplistic. I can't see it holding many people's interests for multiple plays. We'll see what others think.

Yeah, there does not seem to be much to this game. I tried the PC demo from digital eel's site too. Not much to it, but it is still strangely compelling.

I tried it as well. Went through one mission, kept hoping for more (I think the tutorial was actually the most interesting feature), and then returned to the wonderful Uninstall Manager Sandbox and "buried" it. :) Oh well, they make plenty of other great games!

Same here - had a look at it and I could see a lot of possibilities that it could explore to make the game more interesting. In the end, the field of play was limited, the combat system simplistic.

What initially looked like a game with a lot of promise left me with a dissatisfied feeling.
Buried the demo version in the sandbox... :(

Having played this a number of times now, I have seen two odd things.

In one game, star after start went nova.

In another, there was a report of some strange ship between Glory and Hope. Then I died.

Otherwise, very routine. Just wish I could work out the most valuable items,

This means that your game had the dreaded Yellow Kwangi! They are MEAN!

Have to chime in because I've just finished the demo a few minutes ago.

Guess what, I still find Taipan (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=4424) and Space Trader (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=9243) still more engaging. ;)

Apart from ending my game, is there anything else about them?

Remember, this is AstraWare. They bring PopCap-style games to the Palm. Play time is about 5 minutes per game. It's supposed to be quick, an entire game playable while waiting in line at the grocery store.

I wanted what all of you wanted: Space Trader with really nice graphics. That's what it looked like at first. I was a little disappointed when I realized it was just a simple puzzle game, but it's still cool for a little diversion. I'm still waiting for an upgraded Space Trader or similar game that takes advantage of Clie graphics and sound.

Even with the average graphics, Space Trader stands as a wonderful game because of the gameplay not graphics. There are enough games out there which have been favourites not because it was graphically good or had wonderful music, but good solid gameplay.

I doubt they would come out with an upgrade of the game for Clie graphics and sound with the number of upgrades they issue. I would say they would be concentrating on a new platform or more functionality.

One of the few times that substance has beaten style! :)

I have now met the dreaded Yellow Kwangi in combat - with predictable results!

I misjudged where to plant the Limited Vacuum Collapser and they bypassed that star system completely!

So we went mano a mano. Their shields went down remarkably easily, but one blast of their weapon completely vaporised my corvette.
