Hey GUys,

I read a lot of threads here and I learned that when copying video files to ux50, u have to convert it from AVI to MPEG using TMPGEnc. Then from MPEG to MQV using Image converter.
My question is, i did do this. But I still don't have any sounds. Is there a certain setting for TMPGEnc that mentions to uncompress the sound?

How do you guys convert your vids? I wanna watch smallville episodes on my clie with my gf...

Thanks,
John

Depending on how you've ripped those episodes, ImageConverter should be able to deal with AVIs - (I encode with Xvid or DivX).

I've never used TMPGEnc (I'm a VirtualDub fan) - but try re-encoding the files using PCM Audio and see if that makes a difference.

I think IC can only take wav. Doesnt work with MP3, AC3, and other compressed audio.

I have Virtual Dub as well, but I don't know how to use it.
Does it only save in AVI format?
Can you give me the steps on how to save it to a format that IC can convert with sounds?

I found that I have to convert to MPEG-1 first to get sound. I am a complete novice, but have converted several DVDs now successfully (I use a Daewoo DVD player with macrovision removed to write to a +R/W DVD Recorder first), then use the software from dvd-ripper.com, convert to MPEG-1, then use Sony's Image Converter program.

that is what I did. I used TMPGEnc to convert it to MPEG-1 first then used the IC. Don't know where i'm going wrong here.
Also, sometimes, after conversion to mpeg-1 using TMPGEnc, there would be sounds and later on the sound disappears. This is when viewing it in the comp before converted by IC.

Hi Toks,

VirtualDub can be a little overwhelming - largely due to it being a pretty powerful, comprehensive application.

There's a tutorial in the video forum that may help you out. You could also try JobMaker - an application that can be used with VirtualDub that applies a number of presets that should make things easier. It's actually designed to encode for another player (MMPlayer) but should work. One thing you should do when using it: Before saving the AVI, go to the audio tab, select Full Processing Mode then select Compression from the same menu. This should give you a number of compression options - select MicroSoft ADPCM.

I'm in work at the moment - but if you still have no success, PM me and I'll send some settings over tonight (UK time) along with a configuration file that will apply the best settings in VirtualDub for you.

Hope this helps,

Mark.

Hi All,
As per other threads, and lots of frustration, the best combo seems to be DVDX (freeware) and Sony Image Transfer and ICPREFS (freeware for setting Sony Image ware paratemeters, like for movies over 2 hours).

I tried TMPGEnc and didn't have any luck. I think most of my sound trouble was trying to convert from MPEG-2 to 1.

If you're getting some sound, that's odd. I really like the DVD Ripper software I bought though, was well worth it for an idiot like me with this, and I had wasted $85 on MovieFactory 3 already.

I downloaded ICPREFS and I don't see a setting allowing it to go over that 2 hour limit. Does it do it automatically?

install the prefs menu to change the bitrate of the video and audio so it fits to a certain size. there should be a meter that allows you to select how long your movie is, then it will tell you how big the file will be

easiest thing to do is virtual dub to divx with the highest video encoding bitrate and change the audio to ADPCM or other wave file
then put it into the image converter and change the properties however you see fit

tons of info was on the cliesource board movie section....

Which version did you download? Only ICPrefs 2.1 (w/ IC 1.1) can support for extending 2hrs limit. But you need to read the README file before using this function.

For ICPrefs 2.1, have a look in video forum:

I think this might be a different problem than all the complicated encoding stuff y'all are talking about because I am having no sound either and all I did was take the mqv off the UX50. Changed it to mov on the PC (by changing the extension, not running it through a conversion program). And then used IC to get it back onto the UX50. No sound.

I could be wrong but maybe there's a more fundamental problem we're overlooking?

Jackho, thank you VERY much. Just what I needed.

alexnguyen, i heard that quicktime can play .mqv files. As for converting it back to .mov or .mpeg, i have no idea.

alexnguyen:

As you didn't convert it before playing in PC (actually is no need to do that), of course you DON'T need to use IC anymore. That file is already in MQV format.

Check step by step. First, make sure the original file has sound. Use GSpot on Google to see what type of sound. TMPGEnc can only take I think MP3 and wav. If AC3 you need VDub to demux the sound file and recode it to wav with Heada3he. Go to Doom9.org for support. Also you might want to check after you have the file from TMPGEnc whether it works. Then you put it through IC.
