View Full Version : Proxy authentication via Pda Browser

I have given up on Netfront because of the frequent fatal errors --even though when logging onto our T1 where I work, I was able to get a dialog box popup asking for my username and password, and so get authentication.

However, when trying to use other browsers, such as Blazer, PocketLink, and others, I can't get the logon box to come up. Is there a workaround for this, such as encoding the username and password in the url?

Thanks for any info.

If you are in a company that has a firewall with proxy server, and you cannot access the internet using your Palm OS browser, chances are that you will need to setup your wireless networking prefs with a static IP address.

Most firewalls (such as Gauntlet) have settings whereby the sys admin can place specific "exception" IP addresses that by-pass the authentication process, and that will allow those machines (pda's included) that have those static addresses to connect directly, without any authentication required.

In your networking prefs, you will need to uncheck automatic IP, and input the static IP address that you have been given by your sys admin. Also be sure to include the subnet mask and the geteway IP address as well.

Netfront is the only Palm OS browser that I know of which will actually allow you to authenticate via proxy server. All the others will not, and if you are behind a firewall, you will need to use a static IP address supplied by a sys admin.

Dan,

This is good info to know, although I hate NetFront:D!

Thanks!
