There is no official Netfont 3.1 update for the UX series that I can find. Do you know where an official one is?

:D

You asked for any drivers or updates. The sites that were posted were the OFFICIAL Sony sites for updates in the United States and the United Kingdom. I only inquired saying that Netfont 3.1 is NOT an official upgrade for the UX50. If it was officially available, I was interested where it was at, that is all. That is in response to the previous poster saying that there is one available.

Drivers and updates are not illegal; upgrading versions of a software without permission is illegal. I think thats all I have to say. And might as well throw the word piracy in. There is no NetFront 3.1 "Official" upgrade.

First, if you carefully read my previous post, you will see that I know there is not an official upgrade to Netfont 3.1.

Second, I do not like being accused of asking for pirated software or illegal upgrades when all I was doing was contributing to a message thread. If you read the message that was the initial response to your request, that user alludes to an official upgrade to Netfont 3.1. All I did was ask him where it was. Don't start accusing people of piracy before you carefully read their message posts.

Ok, sorry, my bad, I get what you mean now. No, there isnt an official upgrade since Sony never like to please us. They want us to spend money and get a TH55...

Well, they (Sony) have ABSOLUTLY no reason to upgrade anything now.

I know exactly what you mean/how you feel.

Oh well...what can I do at this point!? Sony has stopped making PDA's. At some point I am going to have to accept this and move on.

I just hope some company (hint, hint PalmONE) takes the initiative and takes up Sony's mantle of innovation. I doubt it. But I still hope. :(

I really like PalmOS so I would like to stick with it since I know it well and have used it for so long now.

I know. I don't want to use a Pocket PC again, so it looks like PalmOne may have my vote in the future. I don't like the Tapwave completely, so choices are limited.

Will they allow someone else to use their Memory Stick technology,, This I also doubt but they may be able to sell the rights........

Yeah, they use it in their digital cameras... Obviously. I meant they won"t let another PDA maker use it.

I'll tell you what, even though Sony pretty much ditched us, this UX50 IS still the best out there....anyone notice it still hasn't come down in price? Unless PalmOne comes out with a small clamshell with WiFi and full keyboard, they won't be looking pretty good to me. Has anyone experienced the UX functionality diminish as a result of Sony's decision? Has the unit now become obsolete and useless? This has been the one device that I have not been looking over my shoulder for something better to come along. The only thing that might get me to peek is if they came out with a Treo clamshell built for Nextel, and I think I would still keep my UX50.

Doug, too bad we dont get that bragging right for much longer but I see a good future for us if we stick together, no boat jumping, etc. BTW, this clamshell feature does not fit Palm's budget and technology. The reason why Sony needs to re-evaluate the US market is because they spend too much making it in the first place. You will never see a PalmOne coming to 700 USD first day. Its always in the affordable business range without many of the good multimedia functions. Also, in doing so, Palm can make their fans feel like their "upgrades" are abundant but in fact only feeding back samples of technology that came out. Recently, they tamper with Bluetooth and proved to be a success, but because they push it out so late, it was too late for Sony and as we see TH55 does not have bluetooth since the popularity seems to be "oppressed". Now, on the other hand, lots of my interpretation of whats really going on is just my opinion. No need to take out the flamethrower and chasing me.

About Sony ditching us, I think the only reason why you might think so is because they discontinued the Clie. Sony is proud of us, Sony loves us, but we are too high maintence and as a failing department, there is no reason to keep throwing money away. I mean, I would rather them take back the Vaio desktop, as many might agree its a rip off. The things Sony can do for us is software and compatibility. Hopefully, if they make even better Memory Sticks they know it should be backward compatible, and they know it should be MAGIGATE, with softwares support us Clies!

Their customer service and what not is still available though it would get less and less helpful. Their website will be continuing to sell us... until they are out of stock.

My conclusion is that Sony is not ditching us but rather giving up for a bigger cause. I mean, we do want to see Sony products in the future right?

How many pictures will I be able to get on my 16, 128, 256 and 512 MS!! That is expensive film!!! Oh well... I am not worried until about 3 years from now as I will be using my UX50 as much as I can until it becomes obsolete. Kinda like driving a car into the ground. The good thing is there are no payments.. The bad thing is after warrenty then it will cost less to buy something else than to get it fixed....

Funny you mention this.

My UX50 suddenly stopped working and wouldn't turn on since Sony announced they are pulling out of the PDA market. :p ;) :D

Coincidence?
