Are we allowed to be critical of poor suppliers on this forum? Expansys sell U.S. spec Sony Clies in the UK, while this may not seem a big deal for some of you I would like to point out:

*THESE CLIES ARE SOLD WITH NO WARRANTEE WHATSOEVER*

Sony UK only honour warrantee models intended for the UK market. If you have a U.S. model Sony UK will tell you to contact Sony US. If you contact Expansys UK they will direct you to the label in the top of the box, which starts with "If your product is not working properly DO NOT RETURN IT TO THE STORE"... However if you call the number in the U.S. they point you to the line at the bottom of the label "For US Customers Only".

I'll say it once more in case you missed the 1st time, U.S. spec Clies are not warranteed outside of the U.S. and you buy them at your own risk. Please bear this in mind when consdering such deals as:-

Caveat Emptor.

From the Expansys page you posted:

"They have a 1 year warranty from Sony USA and must be returned to Sony USA for any warranty service. We also stock a UK version with UK warranty and european languages as standard."

Expansys appears to be selling the US version for about 100 pounds less, presumably because it doesn't have to deal with warranty issues. The information is posted in bold type right on the web page - there's no attempt to hide it. How does this make Expansys a poor supplier? This seems to be a case of buyer regret more than a bad supplier.

I don't think the Clie US Warranty applies unless a US address for return is provided. Now Expansys US could in theory help with the process but Expansys UK do not seem to offer this option.

I'm sure what you're saying is true but isn't that something you should ask about before you buy and not after? The fact that the same web site is selling the same machine for 100 pounds more should set off alarm bells that there's possibly more risk in buying the cheaper machine.

I would buy the UK version anyway, well - if the TH55 is anything to go by the US versions of these things tend to miss bits out.

Now here is a funny thing, Expansys UK is selling the UK TH55 for UKP314 + P&P while the same product can be bought from www.amazon.co.uk for UKP260 inc. P&P, which is cheaper than the US TH55 sold at Expansys UK, where it is UKP273 + P&P (sans BT!). Funny old world.

I've used Expansys UK on many occasions and always found them to be fair and helpful. The reason that the U.S. model is cheaper is that VAT is not added to that price, but you do, of course, take the risk of having no warranty if something goes wrong.

Expansys are usually one of the cheapest (in the UK) when it comes to price, but it seems they're way off with the TH55. Even John Lewis stores (who usually price PDAs at the RRP) have the TH55 for £299.
