I just got an NX-60 at best buy a week ago and I love it. I was wondering if the camera is worth the extra 100 dollars or if a wifi card would be a better investment for this amount...any comments would be welcome.

I hesitated for about 1/1000000000000000000 of a second before deciding that the camera was worth the money. would you buy a leatherman with no needle nose pliers, or knife? the camera adds 100 fold functionalilty to the pda. but this is MY opinion, and with my life, I wanted to record movies, and take pictures, any time anywhere. not having the camera took away some of the magic. but again, this is my opinion. the wifi card is also nice, but how often will you need it (versus how often will you need the camera. I manged to catch my youngest daughters first laugh with my clie. pricless, and wouldn't have been possible without the extra 100 dollars.) just food for thought.

 oh dear, I just realized, I thought you were deciding between an NX60 and an NX70v. you were referring to the memorystick camera...:D my mistake. strike that....

I was actually referring to the nx70 itself...i still have three weeks to exchange my nx60 for an nx70...but I was wondering if the wifi card was a better use of my money...i also have a 4 megapixel camera that I use regularly.

The '60 gives you a far faster processor and the CF slot -- eventually, drivers for non-sony-limited items will be available for the CF slot, opening the '60 far more than the '70'll ever be.

Would you trade that upcoming flexibility for a crappy camera?

Say what......the NX60 and NX70 both have the same processor and both have the CF slot.......what '60 and '70 are you talking about?

The only difference in fact is the camera.....

Right. I'm a moron. For some reason was comparing the x60 with the older 70.

HOWEVER, the cruddy camera ain' worth the $100, esp if he's already got a 4mpxl digital. So my point's valid, even if I'm as confused as my namesake.

You will have a camera with you at all times on your PDA, and it won't even make the whole thing bigger. You can always buy a WiFi card (an EXCELLENT addition, BTW), but you can never get the camera. Just get the camera, man.

True, the camera aint worth $100 but now your getting into the debate of convenience. Does he carry his digital camera with him everywhere? I have a T615 and a digital camera (older 1.3 megapixel) - I know, I am low tech. Anyway, I always have my PDA with me but hardly ever have my camera with me and therefore miss those 'once in a lifetime shots' of my infant son doing something. Point is the camera goes only if I know I need it - the PDA damn near sleeps with me.

It's like asking if one should spend an extra hundred bucks for cruise control in a new car. Sounds like you want it, but don't want to spend the money. Basically only you can decide. I originally purchased my NR70 without the camera, then later regretted it. So then I picked up the NX70 for stills and movies.

I think it was worth it. But then again I only paid 100 for my brand new NX!

I carry the camera fairly often but there are those moments you are talking about...that's a tough decision...especially on my budget...

Both my wife and I have found the camera and video capabilities of the NX to be invaluable in both personal and business applications. Spend the extra $100 or get an NZ.

I was just wondering the same thing since I'll be trading in my NR70 soon and I love the gunmetal that the NX70 comes in. But I have the Sprint camera phone so I already have a camera on me all the time, so I'll be going with the NX60.

My $0.02....:)

Just keep in mind that the camera sucks in low light....and I'm not talking 1 candle, I mean in your typical bar you won't get enough quality to be worth printing. I even took a high light picture and it really came out crappy on 4x6 paper. It looks ok on the computer though.

With that sad, however, I have used it quite a lot. Like they say in those wireless/camera commercials, sometimes you want a pic or movie just to say you were there. Just look at it as an extra toy built-in. Or if you like snapping pics it's a convenient way to capture images without lugging a camera.

Get the NX70v over the NX60.

The camera is not going to replace your standard film-feed or digital camera, lets face it. Not if you want nice big quality pics.

What the camera is good for is small snapshots, quick one-offs like "Hey I want to take a picture of this product - say shoes - in a store, so I can compare it to the shoe store across town later" or whatever. It can be a lot of fun too. :-)

I am not as big on movies, but there are an equal number of uses for the camera.

One thing I did not see mentioned: RESALE VALUE

Believe me the NX70V is going to be a heck of a lot more valuable than the NX60 when you go to sell it (let's say a few years down the road)

If you are not going to get the camera, then you might as well look at a lot of other products - say Palm Inc. - or the new Sony models like the TG50 or whatever it's called.

I have the WiFi card too and honestly it is of limited usefulness to me. Consider that wherever I have a Wifi access point, I also have a full blown PC with a real browser etc.

Factor in to your costs as well that you need to buy a WiFi access point/router if you do not already have access to one.

Finally, the cost of the WiFi card will only likely fall. Wait on the Wifi - get the NX70V and have fun with the camera.

Enjoy. :-)

I saved the $100 and got the NX60, and haven't regretted it for a moment. Couldn't see a need for the camera, and I have a 3.3 MP Sony. If I don't have it with me all the time, so what?

The $100 I saved paid for 2/3 of my WiFi card!

that camera is worth the extra money. i had a t665 before i got the nx, and just the fact that i have a camera with me all the time is great! but then again i got a pretty dirty price on my nx70, got mine for 399 brand new like 3 weeks after it came out.:D so that money wasn't a concern, but the feature is too great to pass up.

IMHO, the camera is very much a novelty. I had the NX70 for about a week, looked at the poor pictures it took, and traded down to the NX60. I couldn't see any reason to have it there other than to awe people. I enjoy my NX60, use it daily, and don't miss the camera for a second. In all honesty, I do carry a nice digital camera around with me most of the time so that might have a bit of an impact on my opinion.

Ihave the NX60 and dont think a camera is worth the 100. I dont think for my life it would ever come in handy. It really is laking in the bar sence or even in lower light. I play at night so that would not suit me.

Just got my NX70V (returned my NX60 when Sony slashed the prices) and noticed that the flap with the screen has a different color strip running along the sides. For the NX70V it is white, and for the NX60 it is black.

Also, the NX70 seems to have different buttons than the NX60?? The ones above the keyboard.

On the NX70 the buttons have a golden rim around them, and some sore of pad that goes around them. I don't remember these being on the NX60.

But definitely the camera is loads of fun. :)

They are both the same price at Amazon - no premium for the camera there!

Yes. The camera is worth it. It's fun taking videos although the resolution is small...

Imagine, if you have the camera and WiFi, you can take a pic of yourself and e-mail it to someone else almost immediately.

You might be able to have your cake and eat it to, look at the overstock.com deal you might be able to pick up a refurbished nx70V (that is actually a new repackaged unit, at least in my case) for the same or less than the 60.

Worth thinking about!

I know how your feel. I was there until the NX70 was in my hands, I bought it, including the insurance. Now I think I would have hated my self if I would have bought the NX60.

Get the NX70 now cost 500.00 unless you talk to importluva
