Last month, and friend and myself took our families to see one of those family shows where people dressed as cartoon characters dance around on stage and such. This one was based on a popualar kids' TV cartoon. Its was actualy fairly entertaining.
So about half way thru, my friend decided to see what a video recording would look like thru his new NZ90. He was sitting about half way back, at the front of the section so he had a good unobstructued view, but not as close as he could be.
He turned on the NZ90 and started recording video, framed the shot and then turned off the display so it woudn't be overly bright. He only recorded the last 20 minutes of the show, it was more a test and experiment than any attempt to actually violate the show's copyright.
At the very end of the show, he thumbed the off switch and move to stand up when an official of the show (not of the arena but the show staff) approached and asked WHAT THE HELL WAS HE DOING?? He pointed to the CLie and he realized that while I had the display off the NZ90 has a RED RECORDING LIGHT and that obviously he had seen this.
He was able to talk his way out of it but the staffer was suspicious of the activity. We checked out the quality later and the audio was fantastic but the video was only so so. He deleted the the file as it was 40 megs. Interesting that Piraxy at shows could be a serious problem is Sony makes the video camera higher res in the Clie's.

in here, you keep saying 'his' NZ90 and 'my' NZ90, who's is it?
other than that, sucks you got caught. I took some pictures at a tool concert with my NR70v, but I reformatted my memory stick before I took them off and had forgotten they were on there :(

that is funny
actually i went to a walmart one time and decided to take a pic of something I saw that i liked and was not sure if wife wanted, but figured can show her later.
Some guy from walmart came up to me and said what are you doing. I told him, he said you are not allowed to take pictures inside the store.
I was like whatever...he thought i was from some competitor trying to find out prices or something

I agree that while the audio quality has always been great, the video quality on the NZ90 is lacking. I find that while the NZ's still camera is obviously superior, the video taken with the NX70V, while the same resolution, has fewer artifacts and is more pleasing to watch than that taken by the NZ90.
Perhaps the hardware change that enabled the 2 MP camera has affected the resulting video quality. Maybe if we were able to take videos with a greater resolution, the result would be better.

I saw Old School recently. I recorded the new X-men 2.0 trailer and the first 24 minutes of the movie with my NX. I set it on the floor below me and turned the display off. The red light was a worry, but I knew I could play it off as a Blackberry type device, and the red light was to silently warn me of any incoming messages.
I just did it for fun, and I am not going to distribute the recording. I am VERY impressed with how watchable the footage is. The audio is fantastic. The best part... since I had it on the floor (stadium seating) you can see the tops of the seats infront of me... MST3k style :D

I like taking snaps and videos of women putting on their makeup on the train during my morning commute. So far I've got about 25min of footage of women shamelessly displaying their deficit of couth. :) I'm making good use of my NX while as few people know about its cam as possible.

Ahhh the NZ sadly loses the stealth approach. You can't miss the big lens of that puppy. I wouldn't mind seeing some of that. I'm such a perv!

So much for the new wireless phones that let you email pictures to your broker/buyer.

Has anyone thought of putting a piece of masking tape over the red LED so it blocks out any light?
Next thing you know, someone will be asking for an attachment so they can phtograph under the skirts of women. According to rumours - this seems to be a very popular Japanese pasttime!!! :)

Do i have to convert the files somehow when i export them? I sent an email to Sony Support about this with the NX. I don't remember exactly what they said, but they told me at this time there is no way to view the movies on the computer. I got the impression that it is something they are working on. This was probably 4-6 wks. ago. I assume the case is the same for the NZ.

Just rename it to *.mov, and any new version of quicktime should play it fine.

haha one step ahead of you :p
but masking tape wont rilly werk cause the red light is so bright that it'll still shine through, and if you keep puttin of layers of masking tape, it'll get so think that you won't be able to flip the screen over without taking off the tape.
my advice is to use them black electrikal tape... it werked fer meeh when a recorded Dare Devil at the movies :)
the movie quality wasn't all that great, but the sound was soooo good that i could even hear the ppl whisppering behind me (which kindda sucked)...

/MQ_ROOT/100MQV01/ MOV*****.MQV
