ZL Themes on OS5 CLIE?!?!?

Which are the proper ZLauncher themes to use on OS 5 Clie's?

Some Hi-Density themes (like HazarD's) work fine, while others don't.

Some Hi-Res themes (like Torsten's) work fine, while some like old ones by LaStigmata on ClieSource don't.

Also, the "preview" doesn't appear properly. The Hi-Res themes either appear fine or like they are "double-sized", but the Hi-Density themes lock up the CLIE, requiring a warm-reset to get back in working mode.

Will it be trial and error with all of these themes?

Hey. From what I know... Skins marked like this, XX_Hi_64K are for High-Density Handhelds (Pa1mOne Series, UX Series, and Zodiac Series). Skins marked like this, XX_SonyHR_64K, are for Sony HiRes Handhelds. Just some little info... all of my company's ZLauncher skins, like this one previewed here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?p=641133#post641133), will be both types. Well............ If you have a CLIE ..... and are running ZL 4.1 ... I think you have the ability to run either OS5 themes.. or SONY Themes. It is a difference, in some aspects to the compression of the bitmaps to make up a theme. In the past... you couldn't run PALMOS themes on a CLIE and vice-versa.

With the latest (and at least one rev back) version of ZL ... you should be able to run both PalmOS Compiled Themes and Sony Compiled themes.

Sometimes it depends on their naming standards as to which is which
Sometimes you might see the word SONY or NON-SONY in the filename .. that should be obvious.

Othertimes you might see Sony or OS5. Normally the themes with OS5 in the names would be for NON-SONY handhelds... and those with SONY in the name would obviously be for SONY Handhelds.

I've never known about the differences, but both the "65K" and "SonyHR" themes seemed to have run fine on my TJ25, TH55 and UX50.

Hey. I know what you mean. When I beta test my skins on a UX50 emu... both versions work. This is how I see it... as long as the skin works... no matter what version you have... it should not matter. Oh the joys of ZLauncher's secrets :p ...

I guess I'm a freak or something, but I've got both Appshelf and ZLauncher on my UX50. It depends on what day of the week it is, what my general mood is, and how the planets are aligned that determines which one I use that day! I have them configured precisely how I want them...tons of backgrounds, quick launch apps how I want them, etc.

Very few themes run well on my UX50. Some crash it, others work but don't space the items correctly in detail view with any font above itsy-tiny!

I haven't had any problems yet on my UX50. Seems to run fine with ZL skins and VG/SB skins.

I'll just list the three major ZL theme types:


xxx_SonyHR_64K: HiRes 64K Color Theme for Clies
These don't work on PalmOnes (with pre-ZL 4.x).

xxx_OS5_64K: High Density 64K Color Theme for PalmOnes
Designed for PalmOnes, they work on most HiRes Clies, but the fonts look strange on Clies.

xxx_Std_64K: LowRes 64K Color Theme for PalmOnes and Clies
These work on most LowRes high color PalmOnes and Clies.

Thanks to each of you for the information. I completely understand the difference between the Hi-Density and Hi-Res themes being marked as OS5 and SonyHR, respectively, but I don't understand why some of each work and why some don't...

Some of the older Hi-Res themes from the ClieSource file section don't seem to want to display, giving an error that they are not supported on this machine... an example of one of these would be "LaStigmata" by "LaStigmata"...

Some of the OS5 themes seem to want to freeze the CLIE, requiring a "warm" reset...

I am running the latest version of ZLauncher, 4.10...
