Hello guys/gals!

Just wanted to state my return to PalmOS world. Yesterday, June 09, I sold my P800 and grabbed the Mexican model of the TH55(w/BT !!). It is now charging at home and waiting for me to return and start "playing" with the very LAST Clie.

So, may I ask for "check list" of things to do if you own a TH55 ?? I mean things like "Download this update" or "check this easter-egg!" or "you have to try this soft !!!". It has been a year since I switched from an NR70V to a P800, so I feel really "rusty".

Thank you all.

You must get TheGo!Go! from http://www.palmzone.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=76&ttitle=THe_Go

USe it to: Remap the 4th button to Clie applications. Use the cature button as an on/off button, disable the voice record button and enable the alarm for camera open and then you will really love you TH55

Get the movie record program if you want

Pocket tunes is a must for MP3 playback

Enjoy

Thank you NJL, Tudordoc, PDAJah. It is great to receive answers so fast. I'm downloading right now! so I can upload tomorrow.

Jah, I got a SIEMENS SL55 from my cell-phone company. It is a great phone(I don't refer to the size of course :D) and the PIM apps it comes with are pretty good, but not enough to replace a proper PDA. The only "con" for me is it's bluetoothlessness.

The best suggestion I can give is to start going through the TH55 forum (all 20 some pages worth, and read the posted topics. You will find a lot of gems in there, some of which are not obvious from the titles. And more than learning what toys to install, you will find information on how to use the stuff that came with your TH55, but you never realized was there. You'll also find out how to get out of a jam.

I am about to empty out every bit of junk I've loaded on to my TH55. A lot of it is actually useful, but only you can decide that for yourself.

Easter egg. Search for the Taxi Cab easter egg in these forums. I find it refreshing.

Updates. There have been a few updates to some of the CLIE Organizer apps and at least one for the networking apps. You get the updates from the Sony TH55 support web site.

THeGoGo! - A must. That is the first absolute must. Before you do anything else.

Play with Decuma. Drag your stylus along the bottom of you screen and it will change to the light green (or blue) Decuma virtual graffiti display. I find that I like this very much over Graffiti 2 (and even Graffiti 1). Search the forums for discussions of Decuma and hints on how to get the most out of it (like using ShortCut5).

ZLauncher - You can put way too much stuff on your TH55 that you will want a better way to organize it. ZLauncher is popular, but there are other launchers as well. Demo some.

A backup utility (BackupMan, BackupBuddyVFS, FlyBackup,...). I found that after trying lots of stuff on my TH55, that I would sometimes get something that caused my TH55 to require a hard reset. Having a backup makes life much easier. Be Safe, not sorry, get a backup utility.

Get a Memory Stick. You are going to need something to write those backups to. Also so you can put music, and lots of pictures, and maybe movies, and more music, and maybe some music, ...

Get an encryption utility to keep passwords and other sensitive information in. Then if your PDA goes missing only the really well funded snoops will be able to crack the encryption and steal your stuff, and if they are that well funded they can most likely get to your passworded accounts without needing your password in the first place (a search warrent for example is much easier to get :) I have been using PasswordWallet because at the time it had a Mac conduit and a Mac version of the program. I've also been using SecureIt for more lengthy text, like doctor visits.

WOW, thank you Bob.

I think I'll stick with YiShow and SplashID. Plucker and THeGoGo look very promising too. Yes, I need a bigger MS than my Duo 16Mb, the audio output trough the hedphones is great!!

I have used FileZ in the past, but ClieFiles seems quite the same utility, has FileZ any major advantage ??

Oh finally, I've got rid of the acrylic cover. Now the TH is really slim and I only hope the Globalsource cover caps and case arrive soon. They shipped those yesterday.

Actually between CLIE Files, the Memory Stick support in ZLauncher, and FileZ I have 3. CLIE Files has the benefit that it will unzip files that you directly download via WiFi. But for some global operations, I like FileZ. The filtering and selection capabilities I think are better in FileZ.

Until I really need to throw stuff out, I figure I'll keep FileZ. It has been a good friend.

Indeed, FileZ was a most for me in the NR days, since I used to install every single piece of soft I came across. IŽll probably use ClieF until I start missing FileZ enough.

So Bob, if you have a pet, it may be a good choice for an avatar. (And don't tell me your TH55 is your current pet...:D)

I thought the backup utility that comes with the TH55 was sufficient to recover everything from a hard reset? Am I wrong? I'll totally get something else if so!!

Thanks!

MSBackup is a very basic backup app, but it still works. If you want advanced features like password protection, encryption, scheduled backups, compression, archiving, and exception lists, then you might want a 3rd party backup program.

What he said :)

If you run MSbackup reliabily, and especially just before you install any new programs, then it will be more than sufficient.

However, if you only do a backup every once in a while, or if you get tired of waiting for MSbackup to complete, or if you want to save space on your Memory Stick, etc... then a 3rd party backup utility can be a real advantage.

For me, the prime reason was that I wanted to automatically scheduling so that I would at worst only loose one day worth of stuff. I would forget to run MSbackup, and some of the files I lost the last time were not being backed up during with my Mac (the backup bit was not set). After that last Hard Reset :( I started evaluating backup programs with automatically scheduling.

Hello guys/gals!

grabbed the Mexican model of the TH55(w/BT !!).

En serio la TH55 mexicana tiene bluetooth??

I was looking the the sony mexico site, and in the specifications of the TH55 there's nowhere where they specify that it has BT.

That the reason why i didnt bought it, it's way more expensive, but dont have BT.

thanks

Yeah, as far as i know, the only with BT was the European, because of the restrictions the FCC put on sony for including BT on the TH55, but now this guy says that he bought the TH Mexican and it has BT.

I really dont know, because i've been reading in the sony mexico site, and in the specs there's nowhere stated that the TH has BT.

I'm calling sony mx tomorrow, and i'll tell you what do they say.

I've just called Sony Mexico, the rep told me that the Mexican TH55 has no BT, only the UX50.

Where did you get a TH with BT?

Hey, with shipping it's still cheaper than Mexican TH.

In sony mexico, altough it's still not available, the price is on $5,651.30 + taxes. That is 6,500 pesos, around 590USD.

So, if i buy the european TH with BT and shipping to mexico, should be cheaper.

Hello guys, I have been away to receive my degree as Sistem Engineer, so I'm just reading your kind replies.

Since the BT issue of my dear TH55 has become the main focus of the post, let me tell you I bought it at a PriceCostco store in the south part of Mexico City, I paid 6,300 pesos that is about 540 USD in a 12 months credit plan wit no interest rate. It comes in English, Italian and Spanish, so I thought it is actually an european model sold in Mexico. I also thought that only in Eurpoe you'll find a BT-TH55 so I was glad to pay the amount above to have it in my hands right away(and since I sold the P800 and used the money to cover my entire Credit Card debt, I didn't feel I was expending that much... ).

Bob, I wanted to thank you again for such great advices !! I have alredy done my first H.reset :D but the supplied app is quite enough for me since I sync 1 to 5 times a day.

ANOTHER QUESTION: I have a 256 MS PRO DUO, is it normal that I can only "see" 227.5 MB !!?? I know that MagicGate stuff and system format takes some space, but 28.5 MB !?

Yeah, that's the second European model (the TH55/E2), with those languages (the E1 is English/French/German). Makes sense that they'd sell it in Mexico since it has Spanish. I wonder if that's just a special import, or if all the ones sold in Mexico are that model. Since the US version doesn't have Spanish it seems kind of silly to sell it there or make a separate English/Spanish OS for them. Well congrats on your purchase (and your graduation), glad you managed to get your hands on a BT model.

As for the MS Pro, that's pretty typical to lose an especially high amount of usable space. I don't know what the figure is for the 256, but my 512 had about 40MB missing, so that could be right. Don't know what it all goes for (especially since I thought MS Pro was not truly Magic Gate-compatible, despite the logo on it). Oh well.

I just did peek in the back of the TH55 and it reads /M instead of /E2 !! wth ?? I installed the Clie update wiz and the model was requested, so I confirmed this is not an euro-model, even when the spanish manual reads A LOT like a "gallego instructor". :D

By the way, have you noticed certain resemblance between the TH55 and the PSP ??, the black-mate finish of the TH body and the side buttons seems quite the same in some PSP images. (I'm glad I got an MS Duo so I'll hopefully be able to use it with the PSP)

How very interesting! Maybe it's just the E2 with a different model number stamped on it. I mean why would it need to have Italian in Mexico? I wonder if there's some subtle difference in its features that required a different designation, or maybe it's just a legal thing with selling in certain regions? Very weird.

I am guessing it has to do with getting approvals from the country's equivalent ot the FCC. My US TH55 mentions the FCC and Canada ICES...
