So here's the deal...
I get my new (factory refurbed) NX80 on 20 May. It works great out of the box and I just get it set up how I want when on 25 May the unit refuses to turn on or hold a charge. Unfortunately, I was out of town that day, but when I got back the next day I called Sony, who sent me out a box for return repair service.
Well, I just got it back today (9 June, only two weeks later). I was grateful that the charging issue was fixed (the repair report said something about two replaced fuses). But now I have not one, but TWO, more issues to deal with:
First, it appears that while they had taken apart the unit to fix the prior issue the repair technician broke off the little switch that opens the Compact Flash slot. I can still pry it open with my fingers but I fear that will damage the mechanism.
Second, the unit now refuses to read ANY memory sticks, regular or pro. I tried all three of the memory sticks that I own and none of them work, even after backing up and formatting them. The status bar icon just shows a gray memory stick with a large orange question mark over it, and it is not recognized by ClieFiles or any other file management program.
Anyways, after spending two hours on the phone to tech support they finally agreed to repair the unit. I should be receiving the empty box on Friday.
What I would like to know from you guys is this... I am still within my 30 day return policy from Sony (expires 18 June). Should I just return this unit, since it appears to be a real melon, and resign myself to my old reliable NX60 or should I go through with this repair? The only thing that I fear about returning the unit is that it will come back to me in worse shape than it left and it will spend most of its warranty period in the shop as opposed to my hands. (Of the three weeks I have owned this Clié, I have got to use it for a grand total of three days.)
Thanks for your help guys :)
