Hey everyone, i got a clie off ebay and it should be here tomorrow. I really appreicate all the help i've gotten so far from everyone here so far. I have a few more questions that I can't seem to find an answer to very easily when searching...
The Clie i'm getting is used, so i want to start from scratch. how do I do this? I heard of the hard reset...but i don't know how to do that yet. can any one let me know what i need to start from a fresh os 5 install like it would have come from sony?
After i get everything all set up, how do i back up my clie to a memory stick? Or can i back it up to my computer? Are there application to help with this?
That is all i have for now, but i'm sure i'll have more tomorrow! :)
thanks again everyone!

to preform a hard reset, press the reset button on your clie unit while holding down the power button, let go of the power button when you see the "Palm" logo, then click the "up" button to erase everything.

there's a "MS Backup" icon on the clie unit under "System" or "Utilities", it's pretty simple and I don't think I need to explain much about how that works.
If you want to back up from a previous "backed up package" just use the same app, and select the "package" you want to recover, then choose the "backup" option.

everything you preform hotsync, everything automatically backup to the computer, since you have the nx60, I believe the cradle has the hotsync button, just click it and it does everything for you.

Great deal! $79 + shipping. Hope it is in good shape! Another member here got one from the same guy and said his was in good shape...so i'm hoping for the best.
So with the hard reset, will that get rid of all the apps and stuff too? Or just custom apps? Just want to know if the first thing i should do is a hard reset or if i should back things up first. Or can i reinstall apps from the CD? Also, are there updates of the apps? Like the NX80 is newer, does it have newer apps? Can i get a copy of those apps/cd? Let me know.
Thanks!
P.S. Just check fedex and it is in town!! can't wait to get it!! :)

The second sticky thread on this forum is a good place to get just about all your questions answered. "First steps with a new NX..".
My 2 cents worth: CardBackup is a great backup utility. MSBackup is ok but it isn't automatic. Cardbackup and many other backup utilities allow you to set an automatic nightly backup to the card. A must if you have a crash and are away from the computer and can't hotsync.
Most likely the previous owner will have (or should have) hard reset the machine before sending it to you. But fear not. You will learn very quickly how to hard reset, lol. Its as common as reboots on Windows machines!
Enjoy your new machine! The NX60 is a great machine. I have had one for awhile. It will soon be my son's since a new NX80 is awaiting my return home :)

maybe you can try this application -- "backupman", if the last backup file corrupted, it enables you to choose the previous backup file. so you don't have to install all application over again.

Wow prices for devices that are older. But hey :D its still a great deal for him. :D
The NX60/70 series is a classic, I still have my NX70 gunmetal with me, it's here to stay. Since I can use my 1G CompactFlash Card with the Unit, I can't seem to find any reason to get rid of it. (Not to mention that I've never drop nor put a single scratch on the machine, knock on wood.:))

FWIW, I've had my NX60 since late 2002 and have never yet done a hard reset.
