I have CD's that I have copied to my computer. I am trying to transfer them to my NZ. I have followed the directions in Sonic Stage, and cannot transfer them. I get error message: "Cannot optimize the detected music. Unable to convert non SDMI compliant content without check out rights." Can anyone help?

AHHHH...I heard something like this would happen. You have to burn them with the software which creates a "key" of sorts, once they are burned you can check them out with the software. Something to that general effect...What the heck are you supposed to do if you have 1500 mp3s created w/iTunes? How do you say in this country..."That SUCKS!"

I'll try to find out if there is better info than that, I stumbled across this bit when trying to find the diff between MG and MS.

Thanks for the reply. I used Windows Media Player to copy them to my Laptop. I have emailed support. This is my second email to them. They replied with directions that are in the Sonic Stage help section. This time I told them specifically what the error message says. If I get an answer and can figure it out, I will let you know.

Did you try optimizing the mp3's into ATRAC format? The Magic gate prefers that format. But if you just want mp3's just put them on your ms via ms import

(The first question.) I don't have MP3's - just music I have copied from my CD's. I have tried to figure it out by reading the help section in the Sonic Stage. I have followed directions, but still doesn't work. Can you do that from CD's that have been copied to the computer?

MP3s are music copied from a CD.... Windows Media Player doesnt copy music into the MP3 format w/o additional plugins. The NZ will only play music copied in MP3 format or atrac3 format.
MS import is one of the MOST valuable programs for your NZ. It allows you to treat your NZ mem stick as an additional drive and thus move files around easily.....

I had np's moving mp3's from iTunes to ms, I don't have a MG I could test. When I tried to move them over with sonic stage it wouldn't work. I haven't tried copying mp3's from window$ dir to MS/msaudio...A task for tomorrow.

Side note-I just d/l missing sync 3.0.5 and now I have np's with accessing the MS.

I'm also keen to hear from anyone who figures this out. I have written a lengthy note to Sony, so I'll post whatever reply I get so far they havn't been very helpfull. I'd like to have my music with me after all I have a pretty heavy investment in Memory Sticks.

I use Windows Media Player to copy music from CD's to "My Music" directory on the PC. Then, I open Sonic Stage and import the music files into a "favorites" playlist. Then, I plug in the USB for the Clie, go into Audio Player, and hit "transfer" under "options." Sonic Stage then will recognize the Clie as an external device, and ask you if you want to check out from your favorites. I have had no problems transferring ATRAC3's from copied CD's to the 90 using Sonic Stage. However, as I have stated in previous posts, there is a "bug" in the 90 where audio player will not read the artist's name and song title. Audio player will play the music, but can't recognize titles and names. If I place that very same Magic Gate into my son's SJ33, the titles and names appear. I am hoping Sony will address this soon.

MP3's must be at least 128 bits before you can transfer them to the 90 using MS Import/Export. I originally converted several songs copied from a CD using Windows Media Player, then converted them to MP3 format, but the bit rate was 66. I couldn't import them, so I converted them to the higher bit rate and they imported fine. Make sure your bit rate on the MP3's isn't too low.

Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. I did all of the above, and it still doesn't work. When I tap on properties on the songs I am trying to transfer, this is what it says: "Protected Content
Copy to an SDMI-compliant portable player not allowed." I have tried to use the "Convert to Clie" and it says, "Selected files foremat is not supported." I am ready to pull my hair out!!:(

MP3's go into the MSAUDIO folder on the Clie (It's found under PALM, PROGRAMS, MSAUDIO).  Usually I use MSImport/Export, which places them there automatically. Once I just put the MP3 into that folder after placing the Memory Stick into my PC's Memory Stick slot. That worked, too.

As for that error message when transferring ATRAC3's, I got that message a couple of times  - once when I was trying to "move" out instead of "check" out. Another time I don't know why I got it, but I just took the song, converted it to an MP3 file 128 Mbps (using Screenblast Sound Forge), then converted it to ATRAC3 using Sonic Stage and it worked fine. Try taking one song and converting it into different formats first - I just played with it and through trial and error it worked.

Had to make emergency run tonight to vet with one of my dogs. :( Need to keep a close eye on her. I would never be able to figure all this out on my own. Appreciate your help. Will let you know if it works. :D

OK, so I have solved this problem. I use Musicmtach Jukebox, I select the track I want to the playlist of Musicmatch as if I was going to play them. From there I select export playlist, I export these to a file on the desktop called Clie Music ( make sure you select the "as is good for music transfer button in the Music match export section" and once the file are in the desktop folder i simply copy themn over to a memory stick into MSAUDIO and your away. All information shows up on yout Clie and the transfer is painless. Go get Musicmatch. IN fact I'm listening to transferred music as I type this, love this stuff..
