Still haven't setup the palm desktop software since my computer's being repaired. But curious, as to when I do hotsync my UX50 will the settings be reset and include the wireless LAN option on network preferences?

Thanks.

If not how can I reset it? Thanks

I dont understand the question. In preference and network, choose Wireless Lan. As for if you want to Hotsync through Wifi, look it up on this forum. Also what you mean by demo UX50?

you cannot delete a hardware item from a device.
the Wifi will still be there if you soft reset or hard reset.

if you are talking about the hot spot settings, yes it will back them up when you hotsync.

in the network prefernces under the service drop down menu. When I click on it it says untitled. That's it? What happened to all the other options? Specifically wireless LAN? When I finally install the installation CD and hotsync the clie will it be replaced? I bought the last DEMO model at circuit city.

I'm just thinking here, could that be the UX40 rather than UX50?
Or does the UX40 also have internal WiFi?

UX40 does not have wifi.
joseclie- does your unit have two lights on the right side of the black part of the screen?
the UX40 only has bluetooth and only has one light on the screen
the UX50 has two lights one for bluetooth and one for wifi.

<<network prefernces under the service drop down menu. When I click on it it says untitled>>

This is probably an entry created by using Preferences > Network > Menu > New, which does not include WiFi connections. Are you sure you performed a successful hard reset and did *not* select the option to restore files from the built-in backup area? (You can erase this backup at Preferences > Power Saving > Menu > Erase backup. This will have no effect whatsoever on the factory files store in ROM.)

I don't think I performed the hard reset the way you said. I think I went the restore files route. Unfortunately I have already setup my clie. Is there a way to get back to the initial settings for wifi or save my current files onto a memory stick and then do a hard reset? What about if I install netfront 3.1 will the setting go back to initial settings with the new install. What are the advantages of 3.1 vs. 3.0 Thanks

It appears these settings are stored in the file named "NetworkDB". I tried deleting this file and performing an immediate soft reset in hopes that a new default database would be created from ROM, but instead I got what you have, a network database with only a single "untitled" entry. I then tried a hard reset without restoring the saved backup and I saw the default database, which is what you need.

I then tried to recover my NetworkDB by restoring from the built-in backup, but it did not work, and I was back to the "untitled" network database. In the end I had to restore this file from a backup made with another program. (Note well, those who believe the built-in backup can serve as your only backup.)

Here is what I suggest you try. It's important to perform the steps in sequence. Ask if you do not understand any of my instructions.

1. Go to Preferences > Power Saving
2. Press <Ctrl-R> to enable the advanced mode
3. Tap [Backup] to copy all the files from RAM to the built-in storage area. This will save all the work you have done so far.
4. Start a hard reset by holding the power switch forward while depressing and holding the reset button until the Palm logo appears, then release the power switch and button. This takes about ten seconds.
5. Confirm that you want to delete all data by pressing the UP arrow key. (If you are not asked this question, you are not performing a HARD reset.)
6. Answer NO when asked if you want to restore the saved data. (Trust me.)
7. After the system is running, go to Preferences > Network and confirm that you now see the default database. It should start with AT&T.
8. Use Clie Files to _copy_ the file "NetworkDB" from RAM to Internal Media or a Memory Stick.
9. Perform a second hard reset, as in steps 4 and 5 above.
10. Answer YES when asked if you want to restore the saved data, to recover your work.
11. After the system is running, go to Preferences > Network to verify that the "untitled" database is back.
12. Use Clie Files to copy the "NetworkDB" file that you saved in step 8 from Internal Media or Memory Stick to the Handheld RAM.
13. Go to Preferences > Network and confirm that you see the default database. It should start with AT&T, and you can modify it as required.
14. If everything has worked as it should you will want to repeat steps 2 and 3 to make a fresh backup.

haven't checked out 3.0 yet due to problems listed above, but just got the 3.1 prc and am going to try and install it.

Yes, <<netfront 3.1 allows for widescreen viewing>>, but installing it will not correct the issues with the Network database. Netfront _uses_ this database, but it does not create it.

<<Totally worked thank you so much>>

Good! In your place my concern would be that there may be other configuration files which were deleted or damaged by people experimenting with the demo machine, but such will show up over time.

how did you get a demo model as opposed to a boxed one? was it all they had left?, or did you ask for it? did it cost less?

And it was cheaper by $100. Got the extended warranty though just in case.

Yea, really useful. I actually deleted NetworkDB before. I actually did this step for step without reading this.

Its not an unneeded resurrection. I see a lot of usefulness that can come from this. People who are new and delete this file might not know how to figure out this process.
