View Full Version : japanese to english os swappable?

I am thinking of getting an NX-japanese version (because I live in japan)...is there a way to re-install with the english OS to make it english? or Is there an option of selecting English as the operating language? (like many sony digicams and cellphones they sell here in japan)

Since the grafitti area is virtual, i was just hoping that everything was controlled by software/firmware and the os was swappable (and eventually to os6)

Please advise.

As far as I know the only way to install an english version are some shops in HK. They basically re-burn somehow the Flash ROM, since it is password protected don't think they will let anyone know.

Will you give it to other than fishes?
Actually if you say you are selling a japanese clie, you might get a few buyers. I almost bought one, except that it was just when brayder released jackflash for the nx80 and the US version had more memory.

San Diego should probably have several people wanting to buy one. Also remember that the japanese versions are much cheaper than the US versions, and it is an old model.

To sum up the thread you can't change a Japanese Clie into English. Your best bet as someone pointed out is to learn Japanese, specially since you are living in Japan (lucky you). If you travel to Hong Kong you might find a company that can reflash you pda, otherwise it you won't be able to change it.

If it is from english to japanese, that would be simple. You just need to add something that does japanese (i. e. cjkos), and add other applications depending on how much japanese he wants the apps to do. However the thread is japanese to english, and I understand that in HK they will modify a japanese clie so that it has an english os . As for the warranty, he will have to decide what is better; english or warranty. But having a japanese clie would be a good reason to learn to use it.

Has anyone cracked changing the japanese Clie (UX50) OS to an English one yet or replacing it with Linux?

Thanks

No, it's not possible, (theoritically it should be but you will probably never find a way to do that).
