Has anyone that ordered the NX80 from CompUSA's rebate program actually GOTTEN their unit, or even been notified that it was shipped?

They now show sold out and I have not had a notice of shipment yet.

I haven't gotten mine yet. I ordered it on the 29h. So it's been about 9 days. Was planning on calling them tomorrow.

I was at CompUSA yesterday. Of course they were out of NX80; however they had a NX73, which had $350 label on it (no mention of the rebate or discount). Then asked the guy at the PDA counter whether they had anything in stock; he checked the inventory and told me that they do and it costs $260...

You and me both. I already called them on Thursday. They told me that it would ship on Monday (today) and pretty much reiterated the "7-10 days to ship" thing. Seems pretty long lead time in today's connected world.

Invoice page still doesn't show it shipped.

Hope they don't expect positive reviews.

Just called CompUSA. Looks like they're out at the warehouse and are looking around for some units. Will know by Fri the ETA on the units. I guess they've become popular all of a sudden. Like for me. It'll be my first PDA.

In a way I'm kinda glad that Compusa ran out of stock when I tried ordering from them online. It was a bit frustrating locating another store that had it but I think it worked out good for me. I got my NX80 from Zones.com, brand spanking new for $299.99 and it arrived next day. I'm pretty happy with the service I got. Check and see if Compusa will let you cancel your order for their lack of performance and get one at Zones.com. They have a bunch in stock still! Well good luck, hope everything works out for you guys. ;)

Augh!! I went to zones.com on Tuesday and the NX80 didn't come up. Lots of accessories but no Clie! So I cancelled my CompUSA order and went to Comp-U-Plus. $28 more. But thats ok I guess. Got the Clie the next day, and the three year extended warranty at half the price of CompUSA's and sent a very negative Bizrate eval to CompUSA.

No excuse for taking orders they couldn't fill! The same day they told Irse they were "searching the warehouse", they told me the were waiting on a shipment that was delayed.

Sheesh!

Wise decision... because I just got mine yesterday (ordered May 26 from CompUSA) which turned out to be a refurbished item! Notified their e-commerce dept immediately this morning, and they e-mailed me a free return shipping label so I returned the box free of charge. Hopefully they will refund my $$ back soon.

Check carefully if you also ordered from CompUSA on-line.

Actually it's not too bad... If you lives in CA, Zones.com would charge you state tax for $25. Not sure if Compuplus charges CA tax, though.

If you typed on NX80v it should come up. Looks like you didn't put the v at the end. Just nx80 didn't come up with anything.

Zones.com Nx80v brand spanking new for $299 (http://www.zones.com/cgi-bin/zones/site/product/index.html?id=000802647) :D Glad to see Compusa is cooperating with you guys. I love this thing! How did I ever go so long without my NX80? I am so much more productive with it. I take it everywhere I go.

Thanks for the info :D Comp-U-Plus is in NY.

BTW, refurbs aren't usually too bad. In fact in some ways they might be better since they are checked individually and I'd bet have a better QA than off the line models. My NX60 is a refurb. Main downfall is the lack of warranty unless you get them from someplace like UBID that offers extended warranties like I did. Evidently a lot of the non-Sony dealers have that deal.

But CompUSA's ad did not in any way mention refurbs. I looked at that VERY closely before I placed the original order.

That's exactly why I wanted to return it. They sold it on a promise of a brand new product, while cheated it on a refurb. I wouldn't even want to go through the route of exchange because I am not sure if they will send yet another refurb which will waste my time again..

Looks like mine came in at work. I'm not there today. Now I ahve some questions. This is my first PDA so I know nothing about it. Besides charging it, what should I do first? I tried reading the thread about what to do first but was confused by the time I finished the thread. I also read the thread on CF cards. I would like to use a CF card to back up everything and also to take my pics on. I did download the CF utility, cliecamera, audioplayer. So I'll be adding those. In any particular order? Also I want to use agendus. Thanks for any help.

Well I just came home to my brand new one too so we're slightly in the same boat. But I do have the benefit of this being my third pda, lol!

The one application I would strongly recommend is Inwatch. This should be one of the first things you get. InWatch is very similar to CleanSweep for Windows. It monitors new software installed so if you decide to remove something you can cleanly remove it and get rid of all the leftovers that just deleting the app won't get rid of. You'll find that lots of PDA software leave little breadcrumbs behind after being deleted. Memory starts to dwindle fast.

Get it before you install too much else, as you need to use it for each install of a new tool in order to get a full tracking of all apps.

Oh and to me, screen protectors are a must. You should be able to find a package of Fellowes WriteRights at any Staples, CompUSA or even Radio Shack. There are better one's out there but you really don't want to wait. Get the Fellowes ones for now and then look on the web for the better quality ones for the long haul. I'm sure someone else will chime in with where to get the better protectors.

Beyond that, take it one step at a time. You won't regret your investment!

you may think this is crazy, but i just use an overhead transparency and put it under the screen
works like it isn't there
and after you take it off, no scratches at all
they are very resilient

Anyone knows how to read the serial number from NX80V (printed on the box)? Just ordered one from Zones.com and they show it in my invoice: S0130xxxxxF (don't want to show the details.) Does this look normal, or more like a refurbished/reconditioned serial number?

Thanks...

starbuckk
06-12-2004, 01:16 PM
Well the serial number on my NX80 (definitely new) has a G on the end of it instead of an F on the box. But that G does not appear in the serial number on the unit itself.

My refurbed NX60 didn't come in an "original" printed box, but a brown box with a sticker label on it that had the model number and said "Refurbished" in big bold print. Looking at that NX60, it doesn't look like they changed the serial number on it to make it refurb. It just has a Refurbished sticker on it below the original manufacturer sticker.

Thanks, starbukk. I was asking because I heard that if the refurb is sold from Sony, they'll re-label the serial with a sticker starting with "9". Not sure if they'd re-label it over the original sticker, or just label it below. *shrug* By the way, does your NX80's serial (on the box) match the first few letters of mine, "S0130", except the last "F"?

Thanks again.

I ordered an NX-80 from COMPUSA May 28, and as of 6pm June 11, it had not shipped.

Placed an order from zones.com (thanks for the tip!) -- was $10 less shipping -- and I received an email late last night that it had shipped.

This is a replacement NX-80, and I fear a classic as the companies flee the PDA market. Time to look into decent cases to keep this baby safe for the next 5 years until someone makes a combo PDA/MP3w/HD.

I just received the ux50 from Best Buy as a replacement for the NX80. It was a battle to get them to exchange for the only comparable (price & clamshell) for the UX50. Now I have only about 13 monthes left on my service contract.

While the UX50 is new ground for exploration, I would have perfered staying with the NX80v until a newer better option comes along. I have transitioned my programs without problems except Avantgo which won't go into landscape.

Now I have to dispose of chargers, KB100 keyboard and wifi card and buy backup battery for the new unit. Changing always is like spring cleaning.

What was the problem with your NX80 that changing it via BestBuy PSP was a "battle" -if you dont mind me asking?
How does the BB exchange work now, since they carry most of the PDAs at their online store only?
Thanks!

-------------------------------------------------------------
My problem was periodic hard resets, about one a month but with backups on the MS card, I could restore it in minutes and could live with it.

This started a conversation with Best Buy, Store Manager and Customer Care concerning their lack of support as promised for their service plan. They then offered the UX50 and nothing else as they now only carry that and the TH55. I never asked for the new unit but insisted they address how they were going to honor their their service policy later.

There was no way to check the unit and they really just wanted to get rid of me instead of dealing with the problm that they could no longer honor the service policy and there verbal "we exchange in the store" sales pitch.

Their current policy, try to talk you into sending to Sony, unless you demand an exchange as I did. Then when Best Buy stops all palm sales they will give you a store credit.

In my case the store position is that NX80 is dead and they can still offer the UX50 as an equivilent and that was my only option.

I feel that they did not set up an on-going service plan and are just waiting for us to go away.
