Ick. How did you manage to pull out that button?
I don't think there's very much you can do about it. There are a LOT of tiny screws and springs inside the unit. If you remove the wrong thing, you'll never get it all back together.
Just bite the bullet, send it to Sony, with a check, and let them fix it.

i was able to take mine apart. i had my NZ dropped and fall onto solid flooring cracking the corner of my NZ and IR port. the camera hinge was loose and wouldn't snap shut when i was closing it. i took it apart and fixed it with some super glue. it's hard to explain but the part that snaps it shut came off from the outer case, so simply i just put them back together.
you'll notice how some screws are oddly shaped but using a micro phillips screwdriver (for small electronics) works.
*remember the order of how/where each screw was removed*
i was only able to take apart the main board part of the NZ but not the camera or the screen. knowing how the NZ has many little features (like CF slot, thumbboard, jog dial, IR port, etc) it really isn't so complex inside. knowing basic knowledge in taking apart small devices really helps! but if you know nothing of this, DO NOT TAKE IT APART! just call Sony..
-to remove the backup battery, take out the cover and using small tweezers/pliers pull what looks like a button battery holder (it should look yellow or white, and round) and common sense should guide you through the rest.

you might wanna double check if all screws are unscrewed, if so then i'm guessing it's snapped on. i really can't remember, last i opened mine it was last winter. if you get it to open, there are some flat cable filaments that connect the IR port to the main board, etc etc. watch out for those before separating the cover off. i learned that the hard way!

Hey Azian Advanced...
Is it possible to replace the round internal-back-up battery? There's a plastic wrapper around it. I was concerned if I opened the plastic wrapper I wouldn't be able to re-attach it.
Thanks.

actually, i took my NZ apart but not the wrapping around the backup battery. sorry, but i can't help you there.
BTW, is you battery dead already? i've used mine heavily since last year May and never had any backup battery problems..
i'm guessing it should be replaceable because what's the point of the NZ to have a screwed-on cover for the battery if it wasn't replaceable?? but that's just me... :D
