I have had my NX70 for approximately 18 months. For the past several months the battery life has become horrible. When kept on high I can literally watch the battery charge drain. Has anyone else had any difficulty like this? Any ideas?

Yes, same problem... you have to change the battery :)
Go to www.ebatts.com.

I had the same problem after about 18 months with my NX70V. I usually kept this clie at full charge (keep it in the cradle at home) and I'm wondering if I didn't run it down enough. Anyway, now I've switched to the NX80V and I'm hoping it lasts a bit longer. If not I will probably buy a new battery....I don't see another clie alternative and need this one to last forever!

The same thing happened with my NX70, though I noticed it earlier in the process. Besides getting a replacement battery, the only thing you can do is learn to live with it.

I am haveing the same problem with my NX60. I was going to switch to the NX80 (if i can find one for a good price). Does the NX80's battery drop out over time? If it does, I may have to look "elsewhere"

I'd suggest cliebattery.com They have the NX battery for about $37 which really isn't a bad price seeing as how the NX70 was a $500 investment about a year ago. It'll keep you from spending another couple $100 bucks to get a newer NX model.... :)

Anything that runs off battery power will comnsume it over time unless its plugged in to the wall. My NX80 has a great battery life, I use it throughout the day and charge it overnight and have nevery seen the battery go below 70%.

What I was trying to say was my NX60 was good at first, and noe the battery dies much faster with the same amount of use. I could read with tealdoc for about 6-10 hour of use before, and now I get only 4-6 hours.

O, sorry about the misunderstanding. Lithium Ion batteries start degrading fast after 3 years from the manufacturing date. The degradation can happen sooner if the battery is fully discharged often or subject to high or low temperatures. If you get an NX80 and charge it as often as possible (at least once/day) you will probably get a good year and a half or two years before you notice the battery degrading.

I only just recently starting seeing my battery life go to crap (it drains from 100% to 3% in a day). It's been fine up until just recently. Thinking of what's changed, I can only identify the fact that I just recently installed the CLIE update manager from Sony and installed a bunch of the updates to my CLIE - previously I had only a few installed.

In reading the info on the updates, it seemed that updates with benign titles actually fixed other things. What I mean is, the Columns update seemed to actaully fix/update several things.

Have any of you who are experiencing this battery drain seen it specifically after installing CLIE updates to your device?

I'm fairly sure my battery life problem was related to age (not mine :) but the clies).

meir87 said that Lithium Ion batteries start to "go" in 3 years, and I'm wondering how true that is. I got my NX60 in Nov 2002, so I should be at only 2 years, but...

$37 for a replacement isn't too bad, seeing as a NX80 seems to run $350-$400 these days.

For my NX70V I think it was a bit less than 2 years---same for my sons! Perhaps we needed better procedure for charging/discharge (I mostly kept mine in the charger when home) but now have my NX80 for over a year and half and it's still fine. I love this thing!

Yup I've had my clie nx70v for about 6 or 7 months now and the same thing is happening to me. The charge seems to deplete in no time at all and it is constantly on the cradle. My clie was a display item in the store, so that can be part of the cause. I will look in to buying another battery myself if i can find one at a decent price.

Do any of you with similar problems have all the CLIE updated software installed? Like I said, I haven't had any of the updates installed for a long time, and just started having the problem after I installed a bunch of 'em.
