I couldn't find any similar incidents, so I thought I'd just ask. Has anyone experienced their UX "heating up" near the lanyard loop/jog dial while wirelessly surfing? At first, I thought it was friction from using the jog dial a bunch, but after going a whole session without using the jog dial and the heat still being present, I dismissed that.
It is noticably hotter than any other area of the UX, so I was a little concerned. what component is in that area which might make the UX hot while using WiFi?
Also, I'm using the EB40 extended battery as well.

Yeah, mine gets a little warm during extended WiFi surfing without the EB attached. When the EB40 is attached I can't notice it...because it's covering up the bottom! ;) :D

Well, it's more of the corner that isn't covered by the EB40. I just wasn't sure if I was going to have to give up my new Clie to Sony for a refurbed one if anyone thought it might be a defective component.
Thanks, win.

Well all I know is the antena for the Wifi module is in the opposite corner where the capture button is. The little line thing I guess but the other corner I have no idea what ocupies it.

I'm shouting at you from just outside Springfield, MO, Win!
:D
C.L.-
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if the WiFi module was there or not. I saw the "naked"-cased UX over at the Cliesource forums, but couldn't deciper which was which on it. I can't figure it out. As soon as I stop surfing (with or without using the jog dial), it goes cool pretty fast. It just alarmed me, due to it's fairly high temperature (kind of an "ouch" to the lips kind of hot).

How funny! I was typing the above post when you posted the picture, Win! I was looking at a similar picture earlier, but couldn't tell what might be causing the heat (of course, I was viewing the picture on my UX at that time!)

::shaking head::
Yeah, I saw that. Kinda weird. Those blogs are fun, though. Never thought I'd have one, but man, they're addictive.
I find that I take my UX absolutely everywhere (within reason) just in case the "opportunity shot" presents itself. God, I love gadgets!
Thanks for the picture above...kinda neat to see the guts.

<<still havent found out whats by the loop. Maybe I think is processor since its a big black square>>

The text printed on this part "WLAN..." is a pretty good indication that it is the Wireless Local Area Network device, in other words the WiFi chip. A Google search confirms that this is a "SyChip 802.11b Embedded Module Model# WLAN6060EBC2". It makes sense that this part generates waste heat when we use WiFi, and is otherwise cool.
