View Full Version : 5Ghz WiFi Card
I have a 5Ghz Sony wireless access point and LAN card for my desktop and laptop. It is REALLY fast - but won't work with the WiFi card currently being sold for the NZ90.
Anyone have any "inside" info from Sony as to when they will be releasing a 5Ghz WiFi card for the Clie?
Thanks:)

Maybe you can just get a cheap 802.11b USB device for your desktop and enable sharing in XP so your NZ WiFi can connect to it.
Thanks Reggie. Hadn't thought of that - I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to networking. And Sony is so "proprietary" - I had a "Lynksystem" access point and neither Sony or Lynksys could figure why the desktop wouldn't ping to the laptop. Traded that in for a Sony and it worked just great. But I have a Lynksys switch, and while I can ping the laptop to both desktops, I can't ping between the desktops - Sony says its the switch. Lynksys says it's Sony. So, I'm a little afraid to try anything else at this point, but I might still try your suggestion - can always return it if it doesn't work.
I talked to Sony Tech people about a 5 Ghz card for the Clie, and he said they don't have anything like that "yet"

If you can still return the Sony 5ghz devices, I suggest you get the 802.11g devices instead. They are much faster (54 Mbps) and downward compatible to 802.11b. I guess 802.11g will become the statndard and the 802.11a will just be dropped.
Thanks again, Reggie. Wish I could return them, but it's been a few months. I get 100 Mbps with my desktop, and 54 with the laptop, so I'm happy with that. But I'm not happy that it's not downward compatible. I'll just have to live with what I have.....

Most of the new 54G devices do not work with the Sony PEGA-WL100 CF WiFi card. Many have found out the hardway. The Linksys 54g and Airport Extreme are two that come to mind.

No kidding?! Crap, I thought I'd seen somewhere someone had an AirPort Extreme network and got the WL100 to work...I'll continue to research and let you know. I'm going to take advantage of the mail in rebate on the WL100.
