Does the TH55 come with Clie Remote software? I didn't see it on Sony's site, but I find it odd that it would be eliminated. If it does come with it, what is the range?

Nope it does not come with it. Sorry but Sony seemed to of eliminated a lot of the features that made the clie unique when they released the TH-55. it cannot play polyphonic midi alarms either, it can play PCM but you are limited to about 4 seconds.

That stinks. Is there any remote control software out there that will work with it? And speaking of alarm sounds, how is the volume of the alarms. Nothing worse than having an alarm go off in my purse that I can't hear.

i tried omin-remote and it doesn't work, aparantly sony changed their APIs to standard OS5 APIs to make the clie more compatable or something. I'm not sure on the alarm sounds cause I got nothing to comapare them to, they are not super loud but they are good enough for me.

The Remote Control feature of some earlier Clies (T615, T665) required an enhanced power IR beam. The TH55 doesn't have the high power IR so even if you could get the software to work, your range would be severely limited.
As to the alarms, the TH55 is adequate on alarm volume. Not as high as the T615, but pretty reasonable. And I, too, miss the polyphonic, full length sounds. The TH55 can produce good sounding alarms, but it appears that there is no way to get past a 62K limit per sound file, resulting in about 4 seconds of audio (as mentioned, above, by "Why Fi?").

Dunno what you guys are on about - I found the alarms on the TH55 are really smegging loud!!
I had this one wave file ripped from MechWarrior3 and it scared the heck out of me when it first played. I have since knocked the alarm slider down a notch :)

Personally, I never bought the "Palm as a universal remote control" idea. The screen material is not really designed for multiple finger presses without getting smudged and scratched, and using a stylus to change the TV is a pain in the proverbials. :o The Pronto range has a "matt" screen that withstands smudges much better and is designed for the RMC task alone.
I have tried just about every version of remote software at some point, and each had at least one major limiting factor. Novii remote has only now been upgraded for the NX series after almost 2 years (and still looks awful with its quasi-neon appearance), Philips' Pronto Lite is still at version 1.0 after 2 1/2 years (and will never be upgraded to OS5, it seems), and Perfect Remote can't handle 320x480 screen configurations from Pronto, in my experience at least.
I am sure that Sony dropped the enhanced IR output that was on the NX from later series as they realised that the whole area was a minefield best avoided, and with TH they moved the emitter to the side, to further distance themselves!
My suggestion would be to check out eBay for a cheap second hand Pronto - there are millions of great configurations that can be downloaded from Remote Central, and you can keep your TH for more exciting stuff! :D

ATM I know OmniRemote doesn't support the TH55 - apparently there is some sort of compatibility problem with OR and the HHE CPU.
In fact, the only remote that works on any Sony OS5 PDAs is apparently Noviremote (Also doesn't work on TH55 before you ask :( )

I was a nut for OmniRemote "back in the diz-ay" but the limitations of my then SJ33 and now my TH55 have made it useless.
Seems like Pacific Neotech is stuck in the past too. I wouldn't go looking for any updates any time soon.
They actually get snotty over emails asking for updates, go figure.
However, if you still want to control stuff via IR, and you are stuck on the Sony name, allow me to put in a good word for the Sony RM-AV3000 (http://www.remotecentral.com/av3000/)
I received one of these for Christmas a couple of years ago, and while I know there are bigger and better remotes out there, this one I love.

NoviiRemote has supposedly released a new version that works with the TH55...

To my way of thinking, ANY remote would be useless on the TH . . . since it doesn't have a 'boosted' IR like the NX series (and others). I mean, you'd have to SIT on the TV before your remote would work.
