If I'm planning to buy a "-33 in april "ish" ..... i have 2 questions....
1. what should i expect to pay by then, online, ebay, etc. for a new sealed box one?
and ...
2. i hear people talking about uk and other than usa models. if i get one on ebay or online, how can i be assured it's not one of the problem ridden UK models?

I have the JS33 just got it today and I love it. I also have the NX70 and it is a little too big and awkward to use for me. I like the little unit fits right in my pocket and I love that I can listen to some Mp3's while I am workin on someones computer... You will be happy.

The retail price will probably still be $299. The best thing you can do is look out for special sales or coupons (especially online.) That will be your best bet to get it at a discount. If you can get it for $250 anytime in the next month or so, I would call that a very good price.
Right now if you're in the US, CompUSA is giving a free 128 MB stick with the SJ33, that's equivalent to $50 off or so.

I bought mine yesterday (delivered this morning) for $247.50 from MacMall.
I just checked at MacMall - the price is $299 today. Were they running a special?

A great deal is at Amazon now. $288.99 for SJ33 and $25 rebate, $59.99 for 128 MS (Lexar) and $20 rebate, free shipping and no tax. It's better than CompUSA, even as they include a 128 stick since you have to pay S/H and tax.

I buy a lot from Mac Mall so I do some special pricing... If you call though you can get the same rate. My father in law wanted something that I had told him was at MacMall and he just called and quoted the price I had printed for him and they honored it.

Bought mine from CompUSA (brick-and-mortar, not online) on Mar-3 after spending the previous day looking at them... Got the "free" 128MB stick. Total was nearly US$400 for the works (rebates annoy me). MP3 playback quality is very impressive. This is by far the best PDA I've ever used. It'd be nice to have the HiRes+ display, PalmOS 5, etc., but what can ya say? I was quite content with my Visor Deluxe...but now I think I'll never be able to use a low-res b&w unit again!

i have washed my hands like 6 times today --- I am glad it is not just my unit. I don't what can be done for this.... maybe someone knows of a cleaner / protector that might help?
Unfortunately it bothers me that the SJ-33 still costs so much for what amounts to old technology... doesn't it? You can get a Tungsten T for only $50 more. The 33 is not much better than a 665 except for a little better battery life.. right? It's also larger and rumor has it that there is no infrared remote, unremovable cover that does not fold back so it may be a pain to use in a crowded subway car, no cradle, no easy ability to do a one touch hotsync either. I really need to replace my n760c soon... but is this the one? I can't wait several months for the TG50....

So far I am very happy with it... I do use the cradle from my NX70. I had to remove the clear plastic to make it fit, but now it fits well. It doesn't have that CLIE RMC remote application, I didn't notice that- bummer....

Are you talking about the cool little accessory that clips onto the headphones and allows you to manipulate the MP3 player while the unit is off? Or I think you are talking about the remote control app? I think it is the latter as rumor has it that it does not have any IR sensor so you can't beam either.

I'm pretty sure it comes with an IR sensor that allows you to beam.

Yes!! the SJ33 does have IR but not the enhanced IR (like the T-665c) that allows you to control your TV and IR electronics.

The battery life is more than just a little better, it's a LOT better.
It just depends on what you need/want in a PDA. This one does the trick for me!

What do you mean by smudging? On your hands or on the device itself? Please clarify...

I think he means the cover, and to a lesser extent the back of the unit. The flip cover is a shiny plastic that smudges from the natural oils from your fingers. I just wipe it against my shirt every so often.
It also gets little scratches if you keep in your pocket with other stuff like I do.

so... where is the best deal. go to circuit city with any low price ad, and they'll match it? or was that only for compusa ads?
where can i get the best deal overall?
keep in mind, i want a sj33 and a sandisk or sony 128ms. i don't care how i get the two....but that's all i want.
where's the best deal?
I agree the smudes happen very easily... I hope some 3rd party developer begins to sell custom covers that doesn't get smudged as easily.
It would be cool to have some color other than black, as well (not that black is not cool) Perhaps, they would sell aluminum cover???
 am I wishing too much???

it does have IR but the little TV control app that lets me control the TV without having to fight my wife for the remote is missing... I tried to copy it from the NX70 that I have but the application is "locked". but I could beam information and some of my nonprotected applications.

It has IR (like all Palm PDAs), but I'm pretty sure it's just a regular strength IR. Meaning it will control your TV and stuff, but with a far more limited range (like 5 or 8 feet or so?)
Philips makes a good remote control program, far more customizeable than the Sony one. Just search for 'Philips Pronto Palm' or something like that-
