I just ordered a pair of retractable "earbud" headphones. They look like thos "mini sync" cables but they are headphones instead. I have not received them yet, so I'll be sure to post when I have tried them out. Hopefully they sound decent. I wanted to try them because I hate having to roll up the wire all the time. Here is a link to the eBay page:

Depends what size before you consider them "Dj" headphones. Panasonic has a very cheap pair of those... leathery cushion headphones, fair size, and can be wore two ways. Its about 20 bucks. Some others can be simply headbuds which is very convient and cheap. The better ones have better sound and some even have noise cancelation. The Sony street style is alright but I think they are a bit uncomfortable since the Panasonics can do better. The sound in this day and time has little difference between headphones. What you are buying is comfort and conviency. It all comes down to money.

go for MDR-EX71SL.

I had the zip ear buds, but they hurt my ears after awhile. I now use the sony MDR-EX71 for most times - the option for a shorter or longer cord comes in handy. When I need noise reduction headphones, I use the Sennheiser PX 200 - they fold nicely and are pretty convienent.
I got around and checked the EX71, nice, very nice. However, the EX51 is another can-do since its a bit cheaper and I dont notice the change in the important aspects. I would suggest the 51 for more cost effecient but 71 is bit better, assuming from the model number and price.
I have the 51's and they're pretty sweet. I was told that the only big difference from the 71's is the extra cord and the case...
Hold up, the cord is same, just lenght right? The length to me is usually best, head and arm length so I can hold the UX straight down or have it straight out. BTW, if someone have the 71s, please tell me if the case is even worth anything? It looks small, not auto retract, I'm really not sure what it does.

Hey those look cool! And are cheap! When you get them please tell me how well or bad they sound... They look as the earphones that came with my old Rio mp3 player, of course without being retractable, they sounded too damn good  .
You people are so lucky... you get to buy stuff on eBay. My parrents only let me buy a 1 GB MSpro and not even shipping yet. Hopefully, I'll get to use their credit card more! My wish list:
MDR-EX71 (Looks good, stylish, Sony always sound good)
EB-40 (Cmon... 2.5 hours of Warfare Inc and already dead... I need more battery!)
Screen protectors (I am afraid to even let dust touch it >.<)
BT USB Dongle (fast, easy, convient)
Wifi USB Dongle (Solve all problems)
and MicroQuad (Impossible to get)

I have the Sony MDR-EX51LP earbuds, and they are *fabulous* for the price. The nicest thing about them is the fact that they don't use foam for the fitting, but instead some sort of silicone/rubber stuff; they're the first earbud headphones I've had that feel nice. Decent bass, cancels outside noise well -- great headphones, especially for the price.

I have the 71's and the case isn't that great. It's only worth a buck or less probably. It's plastic and there's no auto retract. But it is useful, instead of just stuffing my headphones in my pocket or my fanny pack and eventually getting tangled I use the cheapo case when I'm not using the headphones and it small that it fits in any of my waist pack pockets, so things are tidy. If there's a model that's exactly the same as the 71 in design and sound but doesn't have the case and is cheaper, get that. You could use a matchbox as your case. That's almost the same as the one that comes with the 71, just not plastic :).
I like the headphones, my ears don't get sore after a while, unlike those standard earbud headphones that causes my ears to get sore after an hour or two.

Very true that you wouldn't catch me walking down the street in those either. The issue is the battery drain and they need someplace to put the battery.... Someone will figure out a way. They have bluetooth headset's for cell phones. They will get them for listening to MP3's soon enough...

I found the Sony FontopiaŽ Headphones MDR-EX51LP to be a nice choice to listen my MP3 in my UX50... The have a nice powerful sound, nice quality of sound and the best of all, very comfortable...
You should take a look... I love them...
The price... 39.99
Regards,
Yah, all this talk reminds me of that heart pounding feeling I had when I first saw all the reviews and talks about the UX50. Then... I got one... hope its same with all the other stuff.

if you want the best, go for the sony mdr-nc11. yea, their very pricy, noise-canceling earphones, but sound is superb.

No use. See, noise canceling is good for at home only and even then its dangerous. While walking down the street you need to be paying attention to cars and other hazard. When people try to give you warning but you dont hear it is your death. Same with driving and all those other things where you need hearing. Your eyes can only see so much coming.

Actually, the best by a long distance are the Etymotics ER4. Nothing compares as far as earphones go. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.asp.
Lol, a build your own headphone kit? I trust Sony more and I had more experience with them.
*Edit* Holy, I didnt even see the price at first glance but its $330 per pair! Crack addicts.

I saw those at circuit city and they were almost $150 bucks. No way I'm buying headphones for that much, not un less they were wireless that small and i could use it with all my devices (phone, pda, computer at work) heheh. That's just me tho :).
I didn't see the fontipia 51 (sorry too lazy to put in whole model/part number) at circuit city so i bought the 71 model.

Whoa $330 bucks. :)
They sell those at thinkgeek.com also. I was tempted to buy the model er6, but luckily i looked around more and found the fontopia. I wanted earbud types that didn't make my ears hurt after a while more than anything.

If you want pretty good headphones that are cheap, I have the Phillips SBC-HS5500. They're only about $15, and they sound better than the Sony MDR-G57G headphones.

I saw the humongous bluetooth headphones above, and wondered if there were any other "smaller" earbud or other type bluetooth headphones that could be used with the UX.

When they started using a pile driver to start building a new building next door to where I work, I bought these to listen to MP3 music on my UX-50:
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6.asp
I found them on eBay for $106 with shipping. They really work. When they are in place with no music playing, I can't hear the pile driver or the clicking of the keys on my own PC as I type. I can't hear the rush of the air conditioning or any voices in the surrounding cubicles. It's weird to have that level of silence. And music sounds very good too.
Bye.
What if theres a fire? You wont hear the people screaming and you will be in your cubicle, fried. Or worst, you start playing games and your boss yells at you, no response and fire you!

Actually, while you are making jest, I have been startled by my boss. She knows I will sometimes be working with my headphones (Sony Studio Monitor Series DJ Headphones MDR-V700DJ) on, and might not hear her come in (my back is to the "door"), but these earbuds are almost invisible.
And we should be having a fire-drill someday soon. I'll try to remember to pop in my earbuds to hear what happens. Maybe you'll be reading about me in the paper: "Employee trapped in fire when alarm is ignored".

I'm on my second set of Koss KSC-50's. About $20 US... nice and inexpensive, sound great, nice highs, rich bass... Great deal for the money. :)
I have a hard time justifing big $$$ for portable headphones, as something always wears out, (cable, pads, headphone jack on the player etc...) or they start sounding worn-out.
My 2 cents... :D

Well, I just "won" some of the "Sony FontopiaŽ Headphones MDR-EX51LP" on eBay...hope they're as comfortable as mentioned here!
;)
It was time to trade up from the older, "wind up" cheapo Sony earbuds.

Well I always thought the money goes toward comfort and sound quality. If you thionk you can live with cheap foam comfort and mediocre sound than yah, replacing $20 ear buds every now and then is alright. But then agian, for a little more you can get a lot more.

I love bass, no bass = no good. How is the bass on the EX51/71s? I still think 40-70 bucks for pear of ear buds are expensive but since everyone here loves it then I might as well try it. Gotta wait for the right time though.

I'd say the bass it good, not like real headhpones though, the kind that covers your ears. It's ok though, if I say the lower model i probably would have bought those instead. I'm sure you could return it to most electronic stores after only using it a day or two and get a refund. :). I got it mainly because it was small (i.e. easily throw into my waist pack) and comfortable.
Do they tangle? I see on many boxes that say headphones with tangle resistance cord. I was like... really?

The bass is pretty good compared to other earbud headphones. The driver delivers a suprisingly satisfying punch. No rumble, if that's your thing. I enjoy crisp, deep punch and I'm fairly satisfied.
MaximumPC likes Shure earbuds the best, but they tend to run fairly expensive. They suggest the Sony 51/71's as runner-up for poor sods like me. ;)
I have no idea what marketing goon was thinking if they put "tangle resistant" on a box. My 51's tangle worse than Rapunzel's hair in a tornado if I don't use that little cheap plastic case.

if you don't want ear canal buds, try the koss portapro. do a google for reviews and u'll get tons of good reviews.
one of them.

Lol, I love those B&O headphones but like all their other merchandise, WAY OVERPRICED!!
You know what I think is weird. The behind the neck cords. That just make one side longer than the other, very akward and it tangles more than the just split at front ones.

I gotta second the Koss recommendation. I use the Sportapros, and have for something like 10 years. You can wear them behind or over yer head. Reliable, and sound great. The portapros are a little better, but both are fantastic.

Well C.L. I've been thinking about your reply... ??:( If I wanted HiFi in a MP3 player, I wouldn't use a MP3 player I would go CD or better yet a portable DVD-A or SACD player. It makes no sense to spend $$$ on headphones for a player that is sub-CD quality.
I have a supurbe Denon sound system in my living room. I have Senniheiser HD650's ($400) which sound excellent for stereo. MP3's compaired to my home system sound like CRAP!!! When I'm traveling or just knocking around I don't need HiFi, I need decient sound, comfort and portability. HiFi & MP3 are at oppsite ends of the spectrum. Besides just knocking around headphones plain wear out, so spending $50 every year just doesn't cut it. The Koss's sound great and seem to match the UX50 very well. I tried the Sony MDR-Q55's and they sound like junk on the UX50, distorded, over driven bass, medocre treble
I'm like you, I want good sound and comfort, but for the money - shop around, big $$$ doesn't mean they are the best for MP3's.

I tried listening MP3 thru Clie, with my Discman's earphones, sounds good. But, the only issue is fast battery drain,if it is continuosly on.
In addition I use it some times in my car, thru a casette adapter. Sounds great !!
