Hi! I'm new here. I just got my UX50 today. It's charging up right now! I can't wait to start using it! I have DSL through a Caymen router. What exactly will I need to set up my wireless connection? Do I need to get an access point? Like the LinkSys WAP54g? And how hard is it to set up? Any help would be most appreciated! I just want to know what I need and if it'll be complicated. Thanks!
I sure was sad to hear about Sony not making anymore PDA's for now. I hope that they will in the future though! I'm glad that I got my UX50 when I did! I went ahead and ordered a battery extended today off of a website. Sony's site was sold out.

The Linksys WAP54G should be all you need to get your UX online. It should also have a fairly easy setup guide that should walk you through the hookup. I have the WRT54G router and it was a breeze to setup so I don't see why the WAP should be much different. I have set up several networks just like yours and if you have a clue about anything, you won't have any problems. :) If you do, just post back and we'll help you out!

Hi, congrats on the purchase, I just bought a UX50 as well. To go wireless, the linksys access point is fine. It's a lot easier than people think to setup an access point. Just make sure you set the SSID, and your WEP (encryption), and plug those settings into the UX50. I also disable the SSID broadcast for more security.

Thanks very much for the replies!!! I know zero about this kind of stuff!heehee! My husband will be the one setting it up. I wanted to make sure it won't be a pain for him before I ordered one! I'll holler back at you if I need any help! Thanks again for the kind responses and the welcome!!! This seems like a very nice community where people help each other out! Hopefully, once I become aquainted with my new UX50 and learn more about it, I can be of help to some newbies someday!
1 small thing, make sure the channel is 6 or lower... Some people have had problems with higher channels...

Yeah I use channel 1 on my Linksys and it works great. It was a breeze to set up as well. Good luck!

I know I'm a clueless airhead but how do you set the SSID? I've been reading the manual and searching this forum and google. I know that the SSID is a sequence of alphanumeric characters. After I hook up the LinsysWAP54G, is that SSID thing going to show up when I scan? I'm sorry for asking something that is probably easy to most of you but I really don't have a clue. Any help would sure be appreciated! I promise I won't ask anymore dumb questions after I get this wireless stuff set up!

Yes, SSID is the broadcast name for your wireless network. You can disable it or not, either way is okay. If you leave it enabled, your UX50 will be able to scan and pick it up. If it's disabled then you would need to enter it manually. Either way is fine.
I think if you type in 192.168.1.1, I'm pretty sure that's the default, in your IE address it should popup the sign-on for your router. It should be in the instruction manual, but go to the site for your ssid, and you can make any changes there...
