Hi to all.
Does PiDirect II work on the NX70?
After reading its instructions, it does not say that PiDirect II works on OS5 ...
Help, anyone?
Thanks
no, and they have stated they have no plans to update it for OS5 devices.

The NX is much faster at Memory Stick access than its predecessors -- PowerRUN is now acceptable to use on programs of any size. Forget PiDirect.

I use Powerrun and it rocks. I really love the extra room on my NX70V. I was just wondering about FontBucket. Since PiDirect will not run on OS5 then is there a replacement for it?
Thanks.
Just trying to get every last Megabit out of my Clie.
:D

I guess you forget the advantages of PiDirect such as not having to move the entire program and databases to RAM to run them. If you have larger programs such as Qubix or RifleSlug you have to now keep around 2.7MB free at all times. So it was a very good program and the concept should not be forgotten because it would help those of us that use our Clies to the max to do that even better if this were still available for OS5.

Tixx,
I agree with you, I miss PiDirect terribly, although I can live without it, just barely...

So, did PiDirect make the memory stick act kind of like internal memory, accessing it when it needed a part of the data?

Basically yes, it fooled the clie into thinking it had more memory than it had. Apps would load almost as fast as the ones in RAM. One caveat though, you could use only one folder on the MS at a time for the psuedo-expanded RAM.

They flat out said no and gave no reason.

I love PowerRun... I'd also like to see some benchmarks of memory stick transfer using memory stick vs. memory stick pro. I don't think I plan on buying MSPro (unless CF flash mem drivers don't materialize).. but it would probably be ungodly fast to use powerrun with MS pro.

Will Power Run work with Quickoffice? Can I move the programs to thye card? Right now I am not allowed to move Quickoffice operating files to the card; they are protected/locked. Does Power Run run programs from the card or it moves them to RAM and then they run from there?
Thanks

What PowerRUN does is moves an application and its related files/dbases to your memory stick and creates a shortcut file in RAM. When you launch the app (via the shortcut), PowerRUN copies the app from memory stick to RAM, and when you quit the app it copies the files back to memory stick.
A couple of issues I found with PowerRUN/QuickOffice:
1. QuickSheet locks up if run from memory stick using powerrun.
2. QuickWord will run fine using PowerRun, but you cannot access the different fonts correctly, and are stuck using the default font that your OS is using.

One of the things I don't like about power run is that you can not move an application or file from the memory stick back to the internal drive. You can only delete it from the memory stick. Found out the hard way!! Except for that one thing I liked the ease that I could move everything.

You can move everything back to RAM just as easily as moving it to the card from within PowerRun. Just choose Memory Card from the upper right drop down box, click on the file you want to move to RAM and hit move.

Sure you can. Run PowerRUN, select memory card, highlight your application, and hit "move". I have done this numerous times successfully, moving applications back and forth from RAM to memory stick... without any problems.

Excuse me, but I use Powerrun and QuickOffice 6.2.3 and QuickSheet works fine and so does Quickword. I am using it on a Sony NX70V with a 128 SanDisk MS and I found that you must leave FontBucket in regular RAM. If FontBucket is not in regular RAM it will crash.
Hope that this helps.

Okay, must have done something wrong then because it just deleted the application rather than moving it back. Will try it again when I get my new Clie.

No Problem. ClieSource has helped me out of several jams and it is nice to be able to share some of my experiences with others. I love to experiment with countless apps and now that I have my NX70V I do alot more tweaking and playing:D
In life one dreams and others do. I would rather do both, but the latter sounds like more fun.
Cheers.

Long and behold that seems to work. Thanks for the info. Somehow it's a crippling situation though, since fonts are so large. To keep font bucket in RAM I've had to delete all but the necessary (Times NR, Arial) fonts to conserve space.
BTW this is with QuickOffice Premeir 7.0 (public beta)
