View Full Version : Doesn't recognize WiFi card

I have an NX70 with the PEGA-WL100 WiFi card. I got them working with my WAP last week, but I screwed it up when I moved NetFront.prc to the memstick (trying to save the 2MB in RAM). Big mistake. So I undid all of that, wiped the databases, and re-installed NetFront and the PEGA-WL100 prc's fresh.

But now I cannot get the Clie to recognize the WiFi card. It's inserted but I get no blinky lights on it, and when I go to Network/Prefs and choose a New Service the only thing I get is the generic "Untitled" one.

There is no option for "Wireless LAN" available!

Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks!

:( 1. Install WL100 driver (you've done this).
2. Soft Reset.

Everything should now be good to go.

BTW - Get a copy of PowerRun. Netfront runs well off the MS via this program.

Thanks for the suggestion but still no joy. I've hotsync'd, soft-resetted, and re-installed WL100_enUS.prc over half-a-dozen times and still there is no "Wireless LAN" service available. Still no blinky light on the card.

It's driving me crazy; particularly as I had it working last week. Any additional suggestions?

...forgot to specify that yes I did do soft-resets AFTER installing the WL100_enUS.prc file. Incidentally after hotsyncing WL100enUS.prc it prompted me to reset the Clie so I know it saw the prc. I just dunno where to go next...

This happened to me also...and then I found out that after a hard reset (did you ever do this?) you have to reinstall the software that came with the WiFi Card. I know you've tried this but make sure you follow the correct order. You need to so a soft reset first, install the software (WL100_enUS.prc) and then do a hot sync. I followed those instructions and put in the WiFi card and then I got the lovely flashing green light again. Good luck. I know that scarey feeling when it didn't work.

Grr. I am following the steps but still no luck!! I:

(1) Do a soft reset by poking the inset "reset" button on the back.
(2) HotSync
(3) Install WL100_enUS.prc by double-clicking the PRC and HotSyncing. The Clie demands me to hit the onscreen "Reset" softbutton.
(4) I do another soft reset by again poking the inset "reset" button on the back.
(5) I cry because there is still no blinky light and no "Wireless LAN" option available.

I've done all of the steps above repeatedly; sometimes with the WL100 card inserted; sometimes not. Nothing works.

Don't do #2. Just do the soft reset. Then Install by hot syncing. I think it automatically does another soft reset after the hot sync installation.

*sob* Still no joy. I tried doing the steps again without the #2 soft reset. I went through it twice - once with the card inserted and once without. No difference.

I speculate there might be a configuration file somewhere that's gotten confused about the card's status? I dunno. I'm very reluctant to resort to a hard reset since that would require several hours to restore everything to the handheld. Any suggestions short of a hard reset?

I had the same problem, I finally manually removed the CFWL files, from the NX then reinstalled WL 100 and everything was fine.

I can only remove 3 CFWL files - CFWL100inf, CFWL100Neti and CFWLNppi. The only other possibility is CFLib but it doesn't want me to remove that because it's read-only. OK I'll give it a go . . .

maybe do a backup...then hard reset...restore files other than those associated with WiFi. I use BackupMan--very handy as you can restore selected files.

I have five files on mine: CFWL 100IFDB, 100inf, 100Neti, 100Nppi, 100SettingD...

Did you install the analog modem driver? I think CFlib goes with that and isn't involved in your current problem.

I deleted the 3 CFWL files (inf, neti, nppi) as well as Network.db and another similar file. I've just gone through 5 re-installation attempts without any success. (Yes CFlib must have gone with an accidental analog modem installation.

Huzzahhh!! I got it!!

Thank you all for all of your help! I do appreciate it very much!

What I finally did was delete the "Unsaved Preferences" file, THEN went through the reset/hotsync steps. Voila, blinky lights and "Wireless LAN" are now good!

So something wacky had gotten saved in "Unsaved Preferences" - hopefully this is useful info for anyone who will get caught in a similar predicament in the future.

Again, thanks for your help everyone! =)
