Check out the Calender tool I posted in the skin topic section. See if it works with the OS 5.2.8. It also works well with T3AgendaBG.

Yes only one for the moment.

I hae actually bought it through expansys.com in the Uk for 167 something. I wanted to try it first. I plan to buy one of every new pla, and then will buy more later on. Can not wait today. It does almost every thing I need. I have a friend who works for them and has used one for several days now and loves it. The mms feature is really good along with so much more. Cant wait...cant wait... cant wait...

Ta.

No need for this app at all - the Zire72 has background changing on the Today screen as well as the launcher screen built into the operating system. That's right - no additional software needed to change backgrounds! You can access photos in memory or on the card and you can change the transparency of the image.

When I was playing with the Z31 in the store, I thought I saw the same thing on it.

Indeed even the cheaper zire also has this feature of a customised back drop for the today screen.

It is PalmOS Garnet, so this is just one of the new functions :)

That sounds so cool! Does it support hi-res backgrounds now or is it still 256? How's that new media player?

The backgrounds can be any picture you have stored either internally or on your card, so I guess that would include hires. I don't know about the media player - haven't messed with it yet.

I just ordered the Zire 72 (http://www.palmloyal.com/modules.php?name=Amazon&asin=B0001KWGP6) for $284.99 and can hardly wait to get my hands on it. I thought about the Zodiac with 128 memory and the dual SD slots but stayed Palm loyal again. Estimated delivery is May 7, 2004 - May 12, 2004

I got my Zire 72 a couple of days ago. It's my first Palm OS device and I really like it. Performance seems great and the screen is brilliant.

Still learning my way around the OS but so far I think it's great.

A bit of a newbie question from me...how do I know when the battery is fully charged?

The battery meter will be full...

What launcher are you using?

Hmm... when plugged in the battery meter just has a lightning bolt through it. There's no ay of knowing that it is fully charged unless I pull the AC out as far as I can tell.

As for a launcher, I'm still running most of the default software. My only extra is ilepoint at the moment. I'm still finding my feet as I've been a long time Pocket PC/Windows CE user

Ah well... Welcome to the world of Real handheld computing!

The lightening bolt is because it is difficult for a memory meter to be accurate when the battery is charging. As you will notice with a mobile phone, it shows a moving bar as opposed to a reading when charging. The best way to check is to take it off the charge and wait a min or two for it to settle.

To be honest though, you don't really need to know when it is full, the whole point of Li-Ion technology is that you cannot overcharge it. Leave it on for an hour, maybe 2 if you have totally drained it out.

Oh, once every 12 months I tend to drain Li-Ion devices completely dead then charge for 12 hours to refresh them...

I recomend ZLauncher or Launcher X instead of the default launcher. I have a mini review of each on my page.

LMAO - I figured I'd get a similar comment somewhere. Actually, I write as a freelance journalist and write about both the Pocket PC and Palm platforms. That's why I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the Palm OS as it is the one I have less experience with

Interesting. That's a little different to the PPC as with a third part utility I use I can tell when the battery is fully charged. It's not a big deal, just something I'm used to I guess

Yeah, I'm pretty cool with the battery technonlogy. I'm waiting for the day when I can give it a few mls of unleaded and run for a month :-)

Thansk for the info - I'm going to try them out over the next week or so. Thanks for the reference to your site. Looks like it's got lots of useful stuff. Be sure to check mine out (www.thepdaguy.com). I'm doing a giveaway at the moment for some vouchers from the accessory site, Proporta.

That's one thing I've always liked about the Sony pda's. They let you know when it's charging and when it's done.

I have used iPAQs (3765 and 3135) and Nokia 3650 symbian phone.

The iPAQ has a blinking LED which turns solid when internal battery is fully charged an optional external battery has its own LED.

Similarily the Nokia has a moving bar which stops moving when charged apart from the short message "Battery fully charged".

I was disapointed by finding out this is not the case with Palms but the OS did not change for the tranformation from AA, AAAs to internal batteries :( Secondly it seems the OS also did not change to accomodate SD cards cleanly, Zlauncher says something like copying the program from SD to RAM transparently before running it. I don't understand that, does not the OS 5.2.8 support running programs from SD?

Anyway my first Palm a zire 72 is expected to knock on the door any moment and I dont see any other turn-off, while great Amazon delivered the SD and Hardcase 2 days before the PDA itself ;)

Well maybe you guys can help me convert, first thing I see I would need to know what is the best launcher around. My iPAQ came with "Dashboard" and I liked its tiny icons view a lot to see all my 50+ applications rather scrolling, and just a tap to see bigger icons.

I use the free app Battery Graph from Jeroen Witteman (http://palm.jeroenwitteman.com). It is free and it gives you a lot of information about your battery. It shows you a graph of your charging and discharging. It also shows run time, voltage, etc. It doesn't tell you when it's "fully charged" but it does give you an idea how your battery is doing.

I just ordered my new Zire 72 from PalmOne. They have this deal where you can get a free 128 mb memory card when ordering the Z72. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing. This should be a nice step up from the SJ30.
