Yes, when you open it up it should!
At least mine does.
Both the NR and NX basically worked the same.
it should... maybe you are low on battery and the powermanager automatically turns off the backlight... or maybe you accidentally turn off the backlight before closing the clie...

I tried it on mine. THe back light goes on with the screen. However, if I hold the button a little too long ( seems less than a second) the back light goes off.
Prehaps you might be holding the power button too long?
Otherwise I am sorry to say, there seems to be somthing wrong with your unit.
Good luck

I had PM'd him before, as a previous owner of a NR70, I would presume he would know how to use it. My thoughts coincide with yours as it's a possible defective unit. I suggested he first do a soft reset, then a hard reset. If all else fails, try an exchange it's if possible.

It should come on automatically... mine does. The advice about a hard reset and not holding the power button down sounds good.

I could use some clarefication as I am new to the NX series. Do you mean that the NX screen should come on when the clam shell is flipped open, no need to hit the power button. Or that the back light is not coming on when the power button is pressed. Because my NX does not come on when the clam shell is flipped open. Thanks for the input.

screen does NOT come on automatically when the clamshell is flipped. if the backlight was on when you last used your NX, pressing the power button should turn the screen and backlight on.

I was wondering that too...mine only comes on when I hit the button and it sounded like that was wrong:(
So the others DON'T turn on without hitting the button, whether you are opening the unit or not??? Right???

I believe that the problem is that when the unit itself is already on, the backlight doesn't come on, and he has to hold down the power button to turn it on. If your clie is off, you still have to turn the power on manually, even if you flip open the lid.

I am getting mixed answers---First, as with the nr70, the new nx70 screen should go on automatically when you open it---mine does not and I was told that is defective----it seems from the responses that some other peoples units also do not go on automatically and they think that is ok----Now I'm confused

My screen doesn't 'go on' automatically either when I open the unit. I believe that is normal.

YES this is normal. screen does NOT automatically come on when you flip it.

Backlight ?! I didn't know there is a backlight in my NX until I hold the power key a bit longer..
Then I realised that I have been using it with backlight on for the last 3 months !!

I originally misunderstood his question and predicament. Hopefully Howard is all squared away now. Basically, if the unit is off(no green light in the power button) and you open up the clamshell, nothing. If the green light is on, then when you open up the clamshell, then the backlight will come on. Unless, the backlight had been turned off by a long press of the power button.
