View Full Version : SD Card Problem

I recently purchased a Tungsten E and a SanDisk 256MB SD card to go with it. I immediately tried loading MP3's to the SD Card but I couldn't because the Palm apparently corrupted the card.
I formatted the card, created the appropriate directory structure and added my MP3's. I was then able to play the MP3's just fine on the Palm. When I took the card out of the Palm and put it into my card reader, the card was corrupt again.
Both SanDisk and Plam have given me warranty replacements, but even with two new devices I'm still having the same problem.
I've installed the SDIO patch and I'm at a loss as to what to do at this point. Any ideas?

I had the same problem. The way i fixed it, was by blowing on the little metal parts of the SD card, and then blowing on the card reader on the Palm.

Not exactly the solution I was looking for. Sounds a bit like how I used to get my Nintendo to work (when I still had one).

SanDisk are notorious for being problematic!

my kingmax has the same problem too - the card is not even recognized in my tungsten E (well, it says card not supported) but yet my friends' Tungsten W and C works fine with it! ARGH!

So is it a problem with my Palm or my SD card? I'm not sure who to blame. So far, both Palm and SanDisk have taken blame and warrantied my products, but I'm still having the problem.
Since I'm still having the problem, I've got to figure out which device to return, or do I return both?

Here is the response I got from Palm (keep in mind they already replaced my Tungsten once)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It is my understanding that you are using the SanDisk 256 MB card. I regret to inform you that the SanDisk SD cards are not supported by the Palm OS. Kindly have the card replaced at the vendor to resolve this issue.

I feel that this is a total B.S. answer. Does anyone else believe this statement?

The T|E requires a card formatted as FAT, NOT FAT32

that's a given... i think he meant even the card was formatted on the device you still can't read it.
SD Cards can be formatted at FAT12/16 for palm to read/write.
Currently supports from 2k up to 32k cluster size with Backup VFAT system. But anything other than that cannot be used...

UPDATE -
I called Palm yesterday and asked about SanDisk cards not being supported by the PalmOS and they said, that SanDisk cards *ARE* supported.
I also emailed Palm and got this response:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott, I sincerely apologize for the wrong information given to you. The Sandisk SD card which you are using is not compatible with the Tungsten E. The SD cards up to 128MB are compatible with Tungsten E. However I would suggest you to try with the 128Mb card on the handheld.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, now I've got responses from three support people at Palm and got three different answers. I must say I'm pretty unhappy with the quality of Plam support.
Now I don't know what to believe. In the mean time, SanDisk has offered to replace my 256MB card for the second time. Let's hope the third card works. Good thing they have a 5 year warranty.

I have a lexar 256mb SD card and it works just fine. I think there is some thing with San Disk and the T E that just don't get along. I would try exchanging for a different brand.
