Might sound really stupid but is their a way to speed up the Zire 71's speed.
When you are watching movies i think it needs alot of speed to get the 'fullness' of the movie! (so the movie doesn't go that blocky!) Or if that aint possible is their a progam which will speed up the processer some how?

an overclocking utility oughtta do the trick. Unfortunately, i forgot the links or names of the utility, but until some1 provides one in the meantime, you can at least look up "overclock" and "zire71" into a search engine

I am not convinced that Overclocking will stop the blocky problem with films, usually that is due to the settings used when the film is converted - what player on the Palm are you using?

If it is Kinoma then I recomend getting Kinoma 2 Producer to tweak the conversions.

It is mmplayer, but also the bitrate and other stuff on the video are to high. I have decreased this but it reduces the quality of the film. I thought by increasing the speed it may help. Have you any ideas?
And congratulations on the new job here, hope it all goes well for you, hoorah

Thank you muchly Spence. I have to admit I haven't - sorry - we haven't tried video with Deb's new Z71 yet... As soon as I get a chance I will let you know...

Lightspeed

see this thread:

Here's the link for the program:

I've overclocked to 192 for my MMPlayer. Can't tell if it helps.

sdjay: it does, big time. especially for higher resolutions.

the lower resolution videos (i.e. 240*180) can go even as high as 30+ fps @ about 224 kbps video... it's quite amazing.

Has anyone tried out this lightspeed yet? I am not that good at this technical stuff and I don't want to mess up anything important.

Circa901 : The important thing to remember is the higher you boost the speed the more at risk your cpu. Don't go nuts.

Thanks for the heads up!

yeah. I had a hard lock on 192Mhz (max) on the device.. and now i am runing it at around 180Mhz for movies, 100Mhz for other applications (so to save battery). Just to make sure, if you don't want your palm screw up, better not clock it :) (in my case i have 2 of them so...hehe)

Here's what I heard from an expert [take this info at your own risk]: "The power of palm's small battery is not enough to rise temperature of cpu over critical limit, no matter what you do."

The manufacturer's claim is 175mhz max.

I have just put Lightspeed 2.0 on my Zire 71. I wasn't sure if this software had any type of a limit time on use or any drawback for the unregistered version.

Hmmm, I have been playing movies at 118 using PXA Clocker on my T3 and things look fine. I don't think you need to overclock to solve your problem, I think you need to reconvert your movies with different settings.
