Chatopus is an IM client for the Palm. Very fast over the BT connection on my SE T610 and t-mobile data plan. Chatopus operates as a "Jabber" client on the Palm. Jabber is a very robust IM protocol that works well across multiple platforms i.e. MSN, Yahoo, AOL (AIM) etc. The setup was simple. This LINK (http://www.jabber.org/user/) guides you through the jabber set up on the PC end. Then just load CHATOPUS (http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=9A1B10F6-CF18-AC90-85A7360074EB064B&PartnerREF=&prodID=52677) on your palm and start chatting.

TIP: I loaded "Exodus" for the jabber client on my PC. I registered "amessage.info" as a public server that handles all of the major IM's out there.

I recently dropped my voice coverage with t-mobile and went all data ($25 p/month). At first my wife and I had a system down where she would take calls for my business at home, send me a text message, and if I needed to respond I would send an email to her yahoo account (which alerts her on the PC). That worked pretty well even with other friends who would text message me, BUT the chat option is by far the fastest and easiest. Now my wife can send me a text message and we can chat if I need to.

Verichat is also a very nice IM for the Palm, and it conects directly to the providers server (eg MSN, AOL, etc) without setting up anything on your PC.

I'm a fan of Chatopus as well!

It has a smaller foot print and is cheaper than Verichat, also supports 320x480 on the T3, and technically does not require anything installed or running on the PC

Hi,

I just wonder, does Chatopus support emoticons?

I have been using VerChat, it has the corresponding emoticons for ICQ, MSN and YIM. So, I wonder if Chatopus has it too.

Thanks in advance.

No emoticons, or canned messages in Chatopus

Is it possible to register with public servers via chatopus on the Palm? I mean, can you register with particular "transports" with public servers via chatapus.

can't do any of the setups on the PALM last time I tried this out. you had to use a desktop jabber client to register a jabber account and set up your transports. hardest part when I was trying it was finding a good stable jabber server...
