DataMgr.c, Line:9573, Index out of range.
I get this message when turning my Clié on. I tried to reset, nothing works.
Warm Reset works, but then what do I do to get rid of the problem?
Please help thanks.

any ideas anyone?
I was getting those for a while as well, except I was forced to hard reset. I narrowed it down to a couple programs...but never did figure out which...PITA, if you ask me.

I had this problem before, not sure what I did though to fix it. I don't remember doing a hard-reset though. :(

ok, it seems everything is working again and I was able to restore my backup - however after I do a HOTSYNC the problem occurs again. The bad thing is that during the warm-reset I did a hotsync, and probably the data/program causing problems was copied to the PC and now everytime I hotsync it probably updates my Clié with that program and that's why I get that problem. I tried doing System overwrites Handheld, and the other way around (both after clean hard-resets and data restores). I don't want to loose my data on the PC by uninstalling so what else can I do, because my Clié is working fine now until I hotsync (so I won't hotsync for now)

ok, I figured it out. It involved removing files from my username folder of Palm Desktop.
boy, I'm doing some hard-time-fixing
When you said "it seems everything is working again and I was able to restore my backup - however after I do a HOTSYNC the problem occurs again.", do you mean you did a hard reset and restored your Clie RAM from MS? If yes, it sounds like you have corrupted file(s) in PC and have a good RAM backup data in MS. So, at least you have a backup data to fall back to. Here is what I think that might work for you then:
1. Check the HotSync, Custom, Conduit list and record the setting.
2. Remove the folder C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\JoeClie (or whatever the username).
3. Uninstall Palm Desktop for Clie.
4. Restart the PC.
5. Reinstall Palm Desktop for Clie.
6. Check the HotSync, Custom, Conduits list and make sure all of the conduits are present and on the right settings. If you have apps like QuickOffice, WorldMate, etc., you may need to reinstall them to get their conduit listed.
7. Make sure that the System Conduit is set for Handheld overides desktop since your handheld has all of the good data.
8. HotSync.
Your Clie should copy down the good data back to PC then.
I usually HotSync to office PC. Today I set my Clie to also HotSync with my home PC, so I basically did similar things as described above (dumping the Clie RAM data into a PC without RAM data). Now I have both PCs synchronize with my Clie. Good luck.

Hello,
Well... I did not quite do it tha way, but not too different (at least the first steps). Yup, probably a corrupt file on the desktop PC was causing it. Here is what I did to get it working.
(after trying different things, I finished with these steps below)
1. Error Appears
2. Hard-Reset
3. Restore from MSBackup (some files I do replace, and some not)
4. Remove the contents of my HotSync username folder, but I don't remove the folder because it would show an error.
5. Reinstall some apps/ conduicts, most of them automatticly worked.
Then it worked. Really weird, but oh well. :p
My bad. I didn't mean the folder, I meant the content of the backup folder. Glad to hear that you fixed it. It's always good to have MSbackup in the case like this.
It's fortunate that your MSBackup can restore your RAM w/o any problem. I'm not so lucky. I have to use two backup apps, MSBackup and BackupBuddy VFS (BBVFS). MSBackup has problem with restoring WorldMate database but BBVFS has not. However, BBVFS conflicts with QuickSheet database but MSBackup does not. I ended up using MSBackup to do a complete backup before adding any new app and using BBVFS to do automatic daily backup for specific database (those that change daily like Date Book, Address Book, To Do, Saved Preferences, WorldMate, etc.)

How to perform a Hard Reset on the Sony® CLIÉTM handheld.
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Performing a hard reset will remove all added programs, updates and records stored on the handheld. It is strongly recommended to perform a HotSync® operation, if possible, before performing a hard reset.
Remove the stylus from the handheld.
Remove the stylus pin by twisting the upper end of the stylus counter-clockwise.
Press and hold down the power button.
On the back of the handheld, use the stylus pin to press and release the reset button.
Continue to hold down the power button until the Palm OS® logo screen appears.
Release the power button.
At the Erase all data? screen, press the up arrow on the scroll button.
WARNING: There is a risk of software corruption. Do not attempt to use any handheld functions until after the Setup screens have been completed.
Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the Setup screens.
NOTES:
If the Erase all data? screen does not appear, the hard reset has not been successful and must be performed again.
If the scroll button was used prior to the hard reset, the reset may not be performed.
If the handheld is inoperable and will not reset, charge the handheld and try again.

Heh...I figured out that it was WorldMate that was causing the lock-ups for me.
You might try the same thing I did. I use to have some problems with WorldMate 9.0. One, that is not mentioned previously, is the Clie howling at the end of HotSync, during an excessively long cleaning up database period. Version 9.1 Sony fixes the problem. HotSync went back to normal (w/o long cleaning up preriod and howling that is). I also put the app (504KB .prc file) in Flash ROM so MSBackup would not back it up to MS (just to be sure). So far, WorldMate has not caused any problem in the last 3 months (finger crossed). The Weather Channel and the Atomic Clock sync are just something that I can't do without in Clie.
