i am wondering if there is some way to make the To-Do-list and Date Book apps. for the zire 71 look like the Tasks and Calendar apps for the Tungsten E.

perhaps agendus has it's enhanced version of those in its suite. If it's just the interface and not functionality, then i'm not sure

It is technically possible if you copy the required files from e.g. a T|E (ROM) to a Zire 71 (RAM):
AboutBoxLib-abxL.prc
AboutBoxLib-abxL_enUS.prc
Address Book.prc
Address Book_enUS.prc
Calendar-PDat.prc
Calendar-PDat_enUS.prc
Contacts-PAdd.prc
Contacts-PAdd_enUS.prc
Date Book.prc
Date Book_enUS.prc
Memo Pad.prc
Memo Pad_enUS.prc
Memos-PMem.prc
Memos-PMem_enUS.prc
Tasks-PTod.prc
Tasks-PTod_enUS.prc
To Do List.prc
To Do List_enUS.prc
In order to do that you may need extra software such as rscedit.
Since these applications are pure 68k (not ARM), they can even
be installed on older OS4 devices.

Nevertheless:
- this is probably not legal (unless you own a T|E and you destroy it)
- you need to install T|E/T|T3 specific version of Palm Desktop, and may need to migrate your data
- this is a bit complicated to do
- this won't improve the software as much as using Agendus or DateBk5. And you can even find freeware that has more functionality...

Agendus is fantastic though and adds much more functionality and looks great!

yeah, i tried porting over datebook+ from my Visor Neo to my Z71, and while it did work for the most part, things were amiss here and there. The scroll up and down wouldn't respond at times, some of the alarm settings didn't work correctly, and I was afraid that eventually, hotsyncing would crash the handheld, or it would do that on its own.

Since I use datebook+ to help keep my life together and organized, I didn't want to take the chance that something would go wrong and crash. I ended up using datebk5. Costs $$, but its stable, and has alot of OS5 enabled features like 5-way and hi-res.
