How come when I try to fast forward the movie on MMPlayer using the slider, it doesn't work?

How come you have posted the same question twice?
How come you have posted the same question twice?

Seriously, it is annoying to click "New Posts" and find twins. Also I am sure that the webhost would prefer not to fill up board space like this.

I think it may be a hardware issue, so your post in Zire71 should get answered soon.

It may be that your handheld may be getting full or the mmplayer you downloaded was faulty just delete it from your palm and instal a newer version, with bug fixes.

CWolf, sorry for annoying you. I thought that since they were different sections of the forum, then the question would be exposed to different users, hence a greater chance at receiving an answer.

Spence, thanks for your help, it seems to be working now.

What settings did you use for decoding?...screan size, fps etc.

I used dvd decrypter to rip the file out of the dvd, then i used flask mpeg to make the file to a size of about 500mb. To compact it even more i used virtualdub, with this you can choose which codec to compress the video and sound files with.
USE THIS SITE AS A GUIDE THIS IS WHERE I FOUND OUT HOW TO DO IT DVD to your palm!!!!!! (http://tek.8m.net/mmplayer_DVD_copying.htm) . All the software to do it is free, also if you get to know how to use the software you can get smaller and smaller file sizes(smaller bitrate etc)
If any probs get back to me.

Hi Spence

How would you rate Kinoma 2.2 against mmplayer ? I use my Palm Tungsten E to watch programmes I tape from TV. For this I use the Kinoma programmes I got with the Palm Tungsten E CD. The pictures are ok but the sound is not so good. No comparison with mp3 on the Palm. Also it takes an age to convert from avi to Palm use files.

What is your advice, should I buy the Kinoma 2.2 or the mmplayer software.

Thanks
mirac

Just to start with mmplayer is only the player, it does not convert the files to mmplayer unlike kinoma which does convert avi, mpeg, mov, etc I really do think mmplayer is best for watching movies on because you can get smaller file sizes at good quality. I havent really tried the recent versions of kinoma but the previous version i had didnt work to well. I compressed a file and when i converted it with kinoma file file size was nearly the original i started with. The process is quick for kinoma but untill it is able to compress files like i can get with mmplayer i wont use it.

Hi Spence

Thank you for your advice on mmplayer. I have visited the mmplayer site and looked at the User Manual that is in pdf.

If I understood you correctly, I can convert the tv programmes I tape on video into avi files. I can then see these on mmplayer.

If this is correct, what are the best settings for the avi conversion to ensure decent picture and sound please ?

Use this site if still stuck contact me, If you are just wanting to compress your video files just use Virtual Dub. This site! (http://tek.8m.net/mmplayer_DVD_copying.htm)

I've just tested with a new piece of software called pocketdivxencoder, very nice if you want to encode videos for pocket devices

Software: PocketDivxEncoder v0.3.40a

Device: Tungsten E
Clockspeed: 180Mhz (Lightspeed 2.0)

File: [AonE]_Onegai_Teacher_-_Snow_Angel_[43708A63]1.avi

Video:
Length: 00:04:25 (3,977 fr)
Codec: XVID
Size: 10.6 MB (or 10,858 KB or 11,119,258 bytes)
Bitrate: 296 kb/s
Frames: 15.000fps
Dimension: 320x240 (1.33:1) [=4:3]

Audio:
0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-2 Layer 3
32 kb/s, monophonic CBR
24000 Hz

Amazingly, out of 3908frames, only 62 frames skipped!
That's about 98.4% frames played (efficiency wise, this is very good!)

(only drawback there might be was that the video was an anime music video, which has a lot of motion in between and they generally cause the most frames dropped..)

here is the link to the file:

Am I only one who has problem with unstable MMplayer? I am using the most recent version and I encode movies with the last version of VirtualDub. MMplayer plays MP3s without any problem, but when trying to play movies (encoded by the method posted here), mmplayer is VERY unstable, crashes or restarts many times, sometimes in half of a movie starts to play from the beginning. Sometimes only crashes always when shows first frame of a movie. And crashes often when I try to hide DIA, or change from portrait to landscape. Did someone experienced the same?

I hve spent a lot of time messing with this program and trying to get it to work on my T|T. I am Mac person and have been trying ffmpeg to reencode (OSeX to rip DVDs). I have been almost completely unable to get satisfactory a/v sync in spite of following numerous recommendations on these and other forums. Along with the persistent crashes and soft resets, I have basically given up! It seems that many people are having success (the extra uummff of the T3 must help with smoother decoding of higher frame rates etc) but Ive had enough...

Maybe you should try and find a mac forum that deals with palms?

errr yeah. Thanks for the suggestion Spence.....Palm-mac forums are few and far between unfortunately. Would be great if MMplayer just supported QT although the compression is much poorer than DivX/Xvid etc...I would also say that there are plenty of PC'ers that have similar problems.....
