and I spent ~45 min there lookin at the new sony PDAs. THEY FINALLY GOT THE NZ IN so I got to look at it. FINALLY! :) I also took a look at the new SJ33. Here are my thoughts about both.
Here are my impressions about the NZ90.
1. The unit is alot smaller than I expected. The hump towards the top where the camera is can be a little obtrusive in a pocket, but whatother 2mp camera AND pda can you fit into a pocket?
2. The unit is surprisingly light for its features. I didn't think that it weighed the 10 oz its supposed to.
3. The shell doesn't feel as STRONG as my NX does-but who knows, it seems nice :) I especially love that color.
4. As others have mentioned the swivel on the NZ seems stronger than on my NX. They both wobble a lil (expected in these types of devices), but the NZ just seemed to be a little less wobbly. Could be me, but I was sitting there with my NX and the NZ and was seeing the difference between the wobbliness. A little obsessive, but I wanted to see if the NZ was strong, which it seems to be.
5. I took pictures with the NZ with my MS I had in my NX. Very nice, but it does take a lil while to shoot another pic-but compared to my old canon s230, it didn't seem bad at all.
The pics came out ok, but they had that safety line theft deterrent thing on there so I couldn't close the unit all the way to take pics as well.
6. Strange to me that the cam no longer swivels around-just used to the NX but it makes sense that the larger cam wouldn't be able to use this design.
7. The hard buttons on the bottom of the screen are really handy. I wish my NX had those, but the next incarnation most likely will.
8. WHO DESIGNED THIS CRADLE??? I really don't like it, and it REALLY is a pain to get the clie on the thing to charge it or whatever. It also looks fragile. But once its on there, the Clie looks good :)
9. Overall, I am very impressed with this new Personal ENTERTAINMENT organizer-not your traditional PDA-but its not supposed to be. Out of 5 stars, I give it ****1/2 I just don't like the cradle, the memory issue, and the price. But the features outweigh these deficiencies by a LONG shot.
On to the SJ33. (my hands are starting to hurt from typing :p)
1. The unit is THICKER than I expected. However, this isn't a bad thing considering how small the actual unit is.
2. The screen cover is pretty nice. I like it, and should protect the screen well.
3. I didn't get a chance to test out the mp3 player, but i assume its the same as the one on the NR/T665.
4. I don't personally like the buttons-the recessed nature makes sense, but the size seems a lil too small. A little bit bigger around and it'd be perfect.
5. The screen is your typical sony screen-very nice :D
6. Yea, overall, I like this device alot, and will reccomend it to entry level users. :) Out of 5 stars, this one gets *****. Full points for a very nice PDA packed with features. I can't imagine why anyone would want the M515 over this one (and the 515 was still listed as $299!!!)
I also had the opportunity to help out a lost PDA soul. He was considering the M515 and the PPC. I showed him the sj33, but he seemed to be bent on the PPC. However, he was a pastor and seemed interested in the voice recorder function on the PPC. I gave him a non-biased opinion, and at the end of our ~15 min talk, I reccomended the SJ or the toshiba he was lookin at. I told him to go home and research it over the weekend, and to sleep on it. The employee who was helpin him didn't know what he was talking about, so I offered to help him after the employee left. All in all, nice trip to CC today.
Wow, long winded post today :p
