The Zire 21 is designed for entry-level PDA users. Me being one of those characters, I feel that I should post a post.

One of the major complaints that I have read is that the PDA does not have a backlight. How often am I crammed under my bedsheets searching for buttons? Get a life!

Another complaint that I have read about is the lack of expansion ports/slots/whatever. This is an entry-level product. Lighten up!

So far, I have seen over one thousand downloadable programs for this little machine. Ain't bad for a $79 "organizer."

I am slowly (read: begrudgingly) beginning to realize the utility of a PDA. And, with a new job with new responsibilities, I am beginning to see the real-world use of these overpriced calculators.

While I admit that I will inevitably need something more than the Z21, this is a great start for a novice. That said, it would aptly serve "as is" for limited use professionals. Succinctly, this is the beginning of a "great" relationship.

Hey, didn't I order anchovies wit dat?

Enjoy...

I will have to agree with you. Though I dont own one. I just purchased a Z21 for my best friend and she is missing the color and lighting that mine has. She is also wanting to have the memory cards. I told her that if the Z31 is real, then we will sell her's and use that money toward that one since it is supposed to be color. I dont know if it will have an expansion slot, but that wont matter too much.

The one thing that I do think is great for the Z21, it syncs very quickly. I was able to sync a 3MB bible there in less than 45sec (probably less than 30 but I didnt count, it was nice and fast). That is a good thing.

I would like for it to be able to pick up some charge from the USB cable. Not much, but just enough to leave it on there overnight to top it off some.

I need to find some way to delete quick tour. My ladi was too smart for it.

Other than that, this is a great litte starter device. If it can drop to less than $80, PalmOne could get away selling these to schools for lab (english and science) use and not have many complaints on setup and maintenance.

heh, I'm currently using a Z71. I needed to move up to color, hi-res, exp, at least 16MB of mem, and extras, like a digicam

I used a Visor and Visor Neo for over 2 years, and I honestly say I if i had to go back to a B&W PDA. I would go back to my Visors (and not just b/c i alr own them). Sure, it's low-res, OS3.5.2, and has a slower processor, but it's got alot of extra sw and programs, and the Springboard slot, tho big, does add alot of potential hardware upgrades.

My only Gripes with the older Zires as entry level PDAs are:
-only 4 hardware buttons, including up and down scroll
-NO backlight
-no cradle. This is moreso a preference, as I'm using to it as oposed to plugging in 2 cables
