View Full Version : What is the best way to HotSync one Clie with two PCs?
Just wondering if anyone does this. Can I HotSync my Clie to Palm Desktop for Clie in PC #1 (home) and Outlook in PC #2 (office)? Is there something I need to be careful of?
Thanks
Never mind. Tanker Bob (http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/) has foreseen the question and answered it on his site. Thanks Tanker Bob.
Hey it works great. Now I have Clie backed up in two PCs, just in case one of the PC crash. :D
Just in case anyone has the same intention, my setup ends up looking like as follows:
Home PC:
1. Clie synchronizes with Palm Desktop for Clie
2. Do Nothing on the Mail conduit - since the Clie is set to synchronize with the office's Outlook 2000 and at home I use Outlook Express 6.
3. Install, Install Service Templates, and Install To Card conduits are set to enable.
4. System conduit is set for Handheld overrides Desktop.
5. Other conduits (Date Book, Address Book, To Do List, Memo Pad, Expense, Quicksheet, Quickword, Worldmate) are set to Synchronize the files.
Office PC:
1. Clie synchronizes with Outlook 2000 via Intellisync Lite. That means Intellisync Dates, Address, To Do, Memos and Mail are set to synchronize the files.
2. Quicksheet, Quickword, Expense, Worldmate are set to syncrhronize the files - the same as Home PC.
3. Install, Install Service Templates, Install To Card conduits are set to enable - the same as Home PC
4. System conduit is set for Handheld overrides Desktop - the same as Home PC.

DanT:
What if you make changes to the doc on the home PC? Since the conduit is set to HH overrides desktop, the updated doc will not be synced.
This is the same problem I have with Docs2Go
I haven't seen any problem with that, yet, since most of the changes I do are on the Clie. However, if I make some changes in Home PC data, for example on one of the QuickSheet files, the HotSync custom conduit setup is already set for Action as "Synchronize the Files". However, if the changes do not get transfer from the Home PC to Clie, I think I can just change the HotSync custom setup conduit for the QuickSheet conduit Action to "Desktop overwrites handheld" and resync it again. Have you tried that?
Made a quick change on one of my QuickSheet data on Office PC, then HotSynced my Clie to the PC w/ conduit action still set at "Synchronize the files" for QuickSheet, in other words, I didn't change anything to the original (default) conduit setup. The data changes got transfered to the QuickSheet data in Clie RAM w/o any problem. I assume the same thing should apply if I make the changes on the home PC instead, as what the conduit setup is designed for.
I'll try it again with home PC later and will post the result here.

Yeah, DanT, I'd be interested.
I am trying to figure out a way to keep them truly in sync, without having to remember to change the conduit settings.
I think this is a deeper problem that I am not qualified to analyze. I also use DayNotez (great app), but have wondered why it syncs the entire db and not just changes. Is there something about the PalmOS that prevents it from noting which files have been changed?
It works as expected! I went home and synced the Clie to home PC. The updated QuikSheet (QS) data in the Clie were copied over to the old QS data in the home PC. Then I made some changes in the QS data in the home PC and synced it back to Clie. The updated QS data in home PC were copied over to Clie. Basically it does not matter where I update the data, the Clie and both PCs are now synchronized. It's nice to have the data synchronized on both PCs and Clie. They are just like having backups.
